Default RX's Little Losi

Got mine in today charged up the battery and took it for a test run in stock condition before the mods start. I was very impress with the truck even with the big heavy battery up top. This little crawler will be a great starter truck for many people.

Here are a few pics I'll say again how impressed I was with it's crawling/ climbing ability out of the box!!! The ESC is great with the drag brakes; Losi really got that one right. The tires could be better and I'm sure all the ones about to be produced will be great.

For those that want to keep the upper battery tray but want a light weight lipo the MaxAmps 1100 2 cell fits great. It weights almost half what the stock pack weighs. 2¼ oz verses 4¼ oz for the stock pack.

I'm pretty sure it's the "micro 1/18th scale plug". But you might want to call them to be 100% sure. I use Deans plugs on all my other stuff so I put a deans plug on the ESC.

If you already have a good NIMH/NICD charger then this would be a good lipo/123a charger that has a built in balancer. http://www.maxamps.com/EOS0403i.htm

If you don't already have a good NIMH/NICD charger then this one does those along with lipos. http://www.maxamps.com/EOS0606i.htm

Keep in mind both or those are DC only chargers, meaning you can't plug them in the wall. (You can use a old car battery or a power supply to charge at home). Or this one is AC/DC and charger NIMH/NICD and lipos. http://www.maxamps.com/EOS0606i-AC-DC.htm

I have a Duratrax ICE charger which is also a good charger. Just remember you have a have a balancer with lipos, and each brand of lipos have their own type of balancing plug. The charger from MaxAmps are Hyperion so they use that style of balancing tab. If you do have a different lipo Maxamps sells adapters so you can balance those. If you get a charger that doesn't have a built in balancer then you'll have to buy on of those too.

Did the basic mods, remove the battery tray, flipped the trans around, put the ESC on the rear axle, reciever on the rear upper links, and battery on the front upper links. The MaxAmps 1100 2-cell lipo fits really well and still has a low profile. I may end up using a 860mAh becuase it would be smaller. I added a Novak lipo cut-off to protect teh lipo from low voltage. Added 1.5oz of weight to each front wheel.

I move the shocks to where the battery tray used to mount. And to add support back to the frame I used some old AX-10 standoffs. I drilled the chassis where the body mounts were and drilled the standoff so I could run a peice of 4/40 all thread through both. The standoff was a little short so I put a nut on each side then tapped the body mounts and srewed them onto the all thread in the stock location. Also lowered the body.

Seeme to climb alot better. Now the tires seem to be the biggest weakness. Still need to mess with the shock oil and limit the flex. But lowering the CG helped alot and the rig is very capable.

Here are the pics and a before and after pic of the same off-camber line thst it keep flipping on before the mods now it does it with ease. Oh yeah the wiring is a mess....I'm not known for pretty wiring. Nothing is pinched or in a bind so it's all good just not pretty. I might try to clean it up later.....

I'd add that another good option for a battery and placement there-of, will be the Losi low CG graphite axle/servo plate that's coming down in the future, and the Max Amps 860 mAH 2S Lipo. It's tiny...about the same width and depth as a servo. You could also easily mount this to the front tri-link on a piece of lexan.

But instead of soldering up Deans plugs to the truck and Li-Po just yet, I made an adapter from the original battery (now has a Deans female pige tail for my Mini-T on it) and a MPI female BEC plug set

Can't really remember just used the stock pack once. Maybe 45min-1 an hour. On the lipo I haven't drove it until it went dead, well over an hour.

Never timed it before and haven't run it much since, I think I might have stripped a rear locker plate with it though
