Default Badger's Losi Mini Crawlers

I was fortunate to get a couple of the Losi MC's right when I got back from the Nats from RCPCrawlers.

I am leaving one completely stock for a possible spec class, and the other one got the standard mods to it.

Rich from Losi did an outstanding job on this rig. Out of the box they are extremely fun to crawl and I think the best first mod you can do is adding wheel weights. The stock rig crawls very well but it gets a little unstable on descents from being so light, adding wheel weights makes it much more stable and predictable.

Here is the first round of mods done.
  • Relocated the ECS to the rear axle
  • Relocated the receiver to the rear 3 link
  • Cut the electronics tray out
  • Relocated the front shocks, moved the lower mount to the lower link stay
  • Made a new battery/servo mount plate out of .32 steel plate
  • Installed a Hitec HS-82 MG digital servo, 47 oz of torque at 6v.
  • Added a Thunder Power 1320 mAh 2S Lipo
  • Made a new drag link using a Team Associated T4 Turnbuckle and Team Associated sway bar cups
  • Flipped the tranny around
  • Added 1.5 oz of stick on wheel weights to the front wheels and 1.0 oz to the rear
  • Slammed the body as low as possible
  • Added traction compound to the tires

The mods worked very well, especially the new micro servo. I drove the modded rig for about an hour today and the servo never even got warm and had plenty of power to moved the weighted wheels and tires.

Took it out to my local spot to test the mods against the stocker. As I said before, the stock setup climbs very well, but lacks a little on the side hilling and descents, lowering all the electronics definitely helped.

I finished the end of the crawl session with an insane climb, I'm going to have to take the video camera to show the climb better.

Cracked the body on a sharp rock.

It works good, it lowers the ride height and also reduces a little bit of the flex which is two things I wanted in the front.

Very clean looking rig, looks like all the little guy needs for modifications.

He linked to it in his first post. They are 4/40

Nice build up on the modded MRC. Nice to see that it does'nt take much to make improvements.

How is that servo doing? Enough torque, you think it will hold up? I would love to put a smaller servo on there.

The micro servo feels just as strong as the stock one even with the added 3 oz's of weight to the wheels.

Plenty of torque for this rig, and the servo doesn't get warm even when I am holding a pose with the steering locked when I took the photo's.

I am not knocking that servo, but my experience with that servo is it will be DEAD before it gets warm. The circuit board is tiny, and it usually done before the heat transfers through the case.

Looks good....I love my losi. What servo is that? I am running the 225mg with an aluminum horn and haven't had one problem with it.

Looking good, I like the new low profile look. I can't wait for Horizon Hobby in the UK to get them.

Did you have to cut anything on the lower mount on the shock or the lower mount on the link or do they just fit in there right beside each other?

Why you gotta hate on the little guy? That makes sense on the heat transfer. I guess we will see how long it lasts, and I'll be sure to post up if/when it dies.

Once I figured out that you need to set the end points on servo's I have yet to burn one up. I think more people burn servos up because they don't set the end points.

It's in the first post. Hitec HS-82 MG

I took the metal collar out of the lower shock rod end and cut one of the flanges off the metal collar on the lower link. Make sense?
