Don's '09 mini rig #2...SSShockless with BTA

Well, I finally had some time at the shop to play around with some ideas that have been floating around in my head while I should be sleeping...and here is what was born. We've already run the shop rig with great results but I am spending a bit more time setting up my personal rig and will of course see how she does once dialed in. I could go into detail about how different this is from anything else I've ever tried (or seen) before...but the pics will explain that to ya just fine. Note the low CG mod performed on the servo mounting posts; I cut the plastic standoffs flush with the pumpkin to drop the servo down around 3/8".

Parts will include:
Cut Gladiators till I get some new rubber
Mini Assassins (Thrashers shown for setup)
Proto SSS chassis
Lunsford Ti Turnbuckles
Hitec 5645MG
Holmes powerplant
Tekin B1R
Maxamps juice

On to the pics (the flex shot is about 5 degrees away from max free flex, current setup allows for 50+ degrees when forced with some power)...feel free to post up some feedback.

Here are a few vids of this chassis in action:

wow don that looks great . need someone to do some testing?????? i like the simplicity. hows tuneable is it ? torsion can be a monster but looks promising.

Thanks boss, do you have a mini ss yet? Beauty of this torsion chassis is...you have a TON of tunability with the upper links in addition to spacing your torsion links in or out on the axle.

I just used the stock hardware and linkage except mounted as shown. I did have to file down the balls in the rod ends to make it so I had enough threads to put a locknut on though. This should show enough to get ya going. I will be making a new drag link hopefully tomorrow that will go over the lower links and drive shaft. "thumbsup"

Thanks buddy, I rack my brain constantly trying to figure up a way to do things that hasn't been done before...and with all the great minds contributing to the hobby that is a tough challenge!

wow that's a wicked setup.. Ive always wanted to mess with torsion but never got anywhere with it.. ill be watching this 1 for sure

DirtyDezPirate 01-08-2009 01:40 AM

interesting, but how does the 4 link work? i dont see povit point for lower link, so im guessing its soild frame from front to rear?? how does it work with twisting? or am I missing something?

Not missing much, the lower links are torsion, machined into the chassis sides. That being said, the flex is in the links, not the chassis, so you are able to tune your flex and how the axle responds with your upper links. It twists just like any 4 link chassis, it's just shockless.

nice racking of the brain don! "thumbsup"

way different take with a torsion chassis.
