| MRC~Mongoose install thread
We got only one Novak Mongoose brushless system in stock so far, and will have more shortly ... So, I thought what the heck, I'll install this thing in my Maverick MRC and see how it runs! The pics show my old system install, a Holmes motor and Tekin FXR (very happy with both, just into trying something new) |

Cool blue 15 tooh pinion is include for use on the MRC. And, it uses an .050 allan wrench!

Comparing the old system to the new for sizing. The Novak ESC is a little bigger .... Remembering the reason why I usually dislike installing brushless systems in any car ... The wiring! There's tons of it! Reminds me of wiring old Volkswagen bugs back in the day. |

Figured now would be a good time to install the last metal locker in the rig. Trani comes out easy and the install took only a few minutes.

The wires from the motor to the ESC have bullet style plugs on them. It's a plus on one hand, but it makes it hard wrap up the wires, without as much flex in the wires. The wire does not seem as flexible as the larger gauge wires Novak usually uses.

The plug that goes on the wire from the esc to the receiver is unique to this unit. Although the one included should do the trick, if the wire is too short ... Well, you're waiting for Novak to release a longer one!

All installed and ready for programming. Not nearly as clean as the old system, but it'll do for now. Programming the ESC is the usual Novak style of watching for the proper light colors and number of blinks. Very straight forward and easy. I needed to switch the motor rotation, because I have the trani flipped, and needed to activate the lipo cutoff. Took less than a minute for both adjustments. |

It will be a few days before I get it out on the rocks to test. It's raining and my time is limited. But, with a couple quick laps around the shop, this thing has some wheel speed! The drag brake feels very strong when you snap off the throttle in either forward or reverse. But, on the "climb it vertical up a box or wall" test, it seems to overrun the drag brake. So, some fine tuning will be in order, and maybe a slight change in driving style. I'm hopeful that Novak has applied what they have learned from the Mongoose's big brother, the Goat, but time will tell. Thanks for taking a look Please post questions. |

Did you have to do anything to the motor plate at all?

Gozer: It was a snug fit, but no real modifications needed. I think they missed on the tolerences slightly ... But, it seemed to fit in ok. Bcrofts: Thanks! Can't wait to drive it and give some more feedback. |

Looks great Jake. Can't wait to see it run. These MRC's like wheel speed in certain situations. Please send your old setup to me for better side by side comparisons. Thanks |

Doug: IMO Sensorless = senseless. Except in a Slash! Jason: It's a different feel, but one that is usually quickly adapted too. Gotta pay more attention to the throttle when climbing or descending. Dave: Uh, yeah, like you need any help with your results! Your rig, and the driver, do just fine! I agree on the wheel speed, but I need to get some weight on te front (new Mayhem rims coming next week!) and I'm thinking about trying the Flat Irons?? |
