Default Project: Moose Knuckle

Just got my MRC in today! I have never owned a RC car/truck/crawler before, but I can already tell it's going to be an addiction.

I found an old Tonka Jeep in the barn and decided to take it apart and clean up the body to modify and use on the MRC. I took the paint and stickers off and went down to bare metal on the body. I want to find a way to reuse or make my own grill.

Here a a couple shots of the Tonka toy cleaned up.

And a poser shot of the body on the MRC. I think it will fit rather nicely!

I'm thinking comp cut / dovetail, tube fenders, cage, and a sheetmetal floor. Kind of like my 1:1!

I have gathered up some sheetmetal and 1/8" solid rod to use for the build. I assume you can you can get too heavy with these things and the CG wont be right to perform as needed. Hopefully I can keep the weight down and still make this thing look SWEET!

I am already looking at getting some Flat Iron 1.9 tires, new servo, bent links, wheel weights, metal lockers etc for this thing.

Anyone have any hints/tips/tricks to offer up? This seems like a great forum with a tons of knowledge. Thanks for looking.

That body is going to make it look awesome, but it's also going to make it very top heavy and prone to rollovers. So you might want to go the scaler route instead of the crawler route. I know I can't wait to see it painted and mounted.

you and I are on the same page! I just finnished a campbell buggy that has everything you are talking about. I have that exact jeep laying around that was my next project. I also have the tonka cherrokee of that same model that I am going to make into the tow truck. Guess i gotta buy 2 more doner MRC's.

anyway, I just got the flat irons and steel lockers from TCSCRAWLERS. these spool lockers are much better than the insert pop metal lockers. the flat irons are sick. I did the beadlock conversion to the stock rims and added 2oz of copper wire wound around the rim under the pvc. if you want any other info, let me know.

Started to make a little progress on Moose Knuckle.

I went and got some lead fishing weights and taped them to the inside of the rims then reglued the tires to the rim. They're 1/8 ounce weights. I dont recall how many it took on each rim, but it sure does make it more stable and the rim/tire combo is HEAVY!

Here a couple shots of the cage. It's coming along. I will hopefully have time to get more done tonight.

In my opinion, chop and lower that rollcage a bit. It looks a little high to me. But other than that it looks good

Nice cage, but a little tip: see ur 1:1 rig, the front windshield is bend backwards... do the same to the cage of the MRC, IF you could. Don't know if it'll be hard and i haven't done brazing or anything like that (just plain ol' soldering :P). It'll look better i think ;) And the sides too, make them bent inside-ish..
