| Dmg nat v3
Well, I FINALLY managed to get some time to build up the SWEET DMG NAT V3 "Team" chassis that Jerry hooked me up with a while back. With the looming advent of a 1.9 comp series in Calgary, this will be my personal Comp Rig, and will be the matching partner to my upcoming 2.2 DMG DCR "Team" chassis build. The quality of the DMG chassis is nothing short of phenomenal, and is incredibly light weight. Not to mention, it just looks bad-a$$. A few pics of the chassis to start: And a few with its big brother: |

I was originally going to build up the axles/tranny from parts, but local prices made it more cost-feasible to just start with a whole MRC. Started by tearing the whole truck down, and then started the rebuild with the rear axle. I was going to do some upgrades here, but haven't heard any really positive reviews on most parts. I opted to drop in a set of metal lockers, re-grease everything, and call it finished. Next up was the front axle. Again, grease and Metal lockers found a home here. I also added Losi CVD's, and Aluminum C-Hubs, & Knuckles. |

i wish the mini could have two bars on the back like its big brother. It would look better IMO. Nice parts though but once you have finished be sure to post some pics!! |

Next Up: Transmission. After watching a few transmission blow-up in the first 1.9 comp here, I knew that Metal lockers were a must. Reassembled and waiting for more parts... Scored a sweet Delrin skid for the rig: And now, time to start modding! Pulled an old black anodized Losi Mini T motor plate out of the parts bin and started grinding. Took the dremel to the tranny casing as well. Why you ask? Easy................to make room for a Holmes Hobbies Puller 454 motor!!! Mounted it up to the slick delrin skid: Oh ya........................ |

Links are uber-slick bend Delrin: Shocks were built up from Mini LST parts. Aluminum bodies, Ti Nitride Shafts, and soft springs. Front gets 80wt oil, and the rear gets 100wt. I was going to try and run a 4 link set-up, but there wasn't much room left once those big shocks were on. I modded the stock 3-link uppers, and mounted them back up. Steering in the front is going to be handled by a Hitec 645MG servo mounted up to a Losi Carbon Fiber battery tray. I built small trays to sit in the center of each of the 3-links, and used them to mount the electronics. Back end gets a Tekin FX-R ESC: And the front end gets a Futaba R603FS reciever as this mini will find a home in the menu of my Futaba 4pk. |

For wheels I was planning on running a set of Mayhem CDP 1.9's as I have really liked the 2.2 versions I have on my DMG Nemesis (DMG Nemesis Comp Build). Unfortunately, I had nothing but issued trying to actually get them, so instead I ended up turning to DNA. 1.9 Snipers will be the wheel of choice here! For tires I turned to Proline for a set of their new G8 compound 1.9 Flat Irons. Proline memory foams are all around. Rear rims stayed stock, fronts each got a 3oz wrap of lead. I'm really happy with the "look" of the DNA rims, but the quality is a little off. Not a single one of my beadlock rings is actually round. It seems very odd to me, but they all seem to have flat spots in them. I doubt it will distract from the performance, but it does bug me a bit to look at. |

Have you run it yet with the flatirons? How do you like them? I have a nat v2 and was just wondering.

Got this mini beast out and running in the snow today. Tires worked quite well on a mix of slick river rock and grippy sandstone/concrete. Compound seems spot on, though I think a wider tread spacing would be beneficial. The 454 motor provides sick torque, great wheel speed, and phenomenal throttle control. Now I just need to learn to watch my throttle finger so I don't destroy the driveline! Suspension is too stiff with the 80/100wt oil, so I'll have to swap that out soon for something a little thinner. I'm smiling though.........this NAT V3 rocks. |

A THREAD BACK FROM THE DEAD! Well, after a close to two year hiatus from any real crawling, life has settled down a bit and the NAT V3 has seen some action. I drove the rig through a few local comps once it was built, but really was never overly thrilled with its performance. The silly thick shock oil really limited the rigs capabilities, and the monster motor just kept killing LiPo's. This fall I dusted it off, and started towards what will likely now be a winter rebuild. Started off by tearing into the shocks, and swapping to 30wt oil in the back, and 20wt oil in the front. After killing a couple 25c 800mah packs, I went full out and picked up a 45c 1300mah hyperion pack. Silly big for comp use, but for now, this crawler is gonna mainly see back-country crawling. First couple runs revealed a few things: 1) Flat irons might need to be modified, or swaped. 2) Oil weight is better, but the mini LST shocks are just too stiffly sprung. I think I'll try a set if the newer Losi threaded aluminum shocks. 3) Tiny steering hardware just ain't gonna cut it. So from here begins the start of reviving this little beast. I'll try to dig up and reload the old pics so I can refresh the first half of this thread, and I'll be sure to update with some new pics as I go along here as well. For now I've placed a couple orders for some goodies from RCBros and BWD, so we'll see where things go from there.......... |
