Thumbs up Skunk, definately not a Fat-Dog Chassis Build

I picked up this chassis seconhand from a RCC member on the cheap and decided to rebuild my MRC. I had a bit of fabrication to do to get the chassis as it sat to within the Comp Rules (8.5" wheelbase)... I had to pull in the lower links by an inch or so to pull the axles in. The included motor mount wasn't my cup of tea so a new one was made, mounting was a bit cleaner with the new mount, and a little lower. Friend of mine (G10Crawler here) cut out some 4-link servo plates out of G10 and off we go...

Info:
Stock MRC base
Fat-Dog Chassis(correction! Skunk Chassis)
Upgraded all lockers
Shocks running as droop setup (unknown type, not HR, not losi)
Reedy 19T Modified motor 10t pinion
Fusion-Pack 1300mah 2s Lipo
5A UBEC
Proline Flat Irons 7oz front, 5oz rear.
Losi Beadlocks

After making the motor mount, buying a little hardware, fresh panels and a little paint its done. Some quick tests in the yard on the small rocks, its working well so far. Need to tune the droop a bit to get a little better action. The center of the chassis has such a small footprint, even with the low hung belly pan it clears most everything w/o a scrape.

Thanks to Fusion-Pack for keeping me in batteries!

On to some pics...

Looks good. I'm not normally a tube chassis fan, but yours came out nice.

Might want to countersink the lower link bolts on the bottom of the chassis, the exposed buttonheads might get hung up.

The G10 material is a nice find, going to start using that a lot more!

Yeah, those were my concern as well. Unfortuneately the aluminum pan is not thick enough to countersink proper bolts in there, but I may end up making a thin "skid plate" out of delrin or cutting board material, just thick enough to hide the bolt heads but not hang down too much. That would allow me to wrap it up the sides a little and provide a little slicker bottom as well for the whole rig to get up and over.

Too bad I'll be out of town on vacation this weekend, New Papago would be a good test for it at the comp... Good luck out there.

looks identical to my skunk built by metal fume fabrication except the skid, not a fatdog..

the shocks are minizilla shocks made by 3racing.

nice lookin rig man.

I'd have to agree that those are the same chassis for sure, even the same shapes for the lexan panels! Kind of funny, the chassis was sold a couple times before it made it to me, and the previous 2 that I could find both called it a Fat-Dog, wonder where the mix up happened along the way... Good to know what it is though...

I do like your lower profile skid, would you happen to have any more indepth pictures you could send along? I'm open for remaking the skid I have, this one is kind of tall as it is.

Thanks for the tip on the shock ID too...

my chassis was the prototype. the maker of these chassis name is ecoli and he is on here. send him a pm and ask about the skid he might be able to hook you up. mine might be slightly different thoe cause i belive some minor changes were made to the chassis after my prototype.

ill try and find some pics. but do a search for skunk in the mrc forum. and youll find my thread with pics.

Looking good. I remember that chassis as it was the only one I made with the multiple rear shock mounting locations. As tre (akguanga) noted, he has the prototype, but there's several of these frames floating around now.

My only suggestion would be to make something to protect your rx. Looks a little exposed on that rear upper link plate.

You try running it with the batt on the rear and taking some weight out of the tires? keep some of that weight closer to the center of the axle.

Looks good, I could never make a tuber look good with the way I run wires...
