Default Metal Fume Fabrication Campbell moon buggy

I though that I would post this chassis that I got recently form Ecoli at MFF. This was built along with it's bigger brother ( 1/6 rock racer ). Even though this is small the attention to detail is not lacking. It comes with custom cut side panels that would allow this to be a direct bolt up chassis. I opted for a traditional style skid plate for mine. I know that it will not be comp legal this way but I am building it for bashing with the kid's. I also chose to have it left unfinished so I could do some of the detail work myself.

This build will be on the back burner for a while so I can finish my racer build. I will post up as I get things done on this one.

Thanks for looking!

This may be a dumb question but, why is the roof off center?

...and on the 1:1 the roof was made to protect the driver. There is no passenger so all the extra height on that side is gone.

Ahhh, that makes complete sense. That's what I was thinking but wasn't sure.

Well I cold not let this one sit by and not get worked on. I know that everyone else has that problem to! I have been working on smoothing out some out some of the tube junctions. Man this is tough with this thing being so small. I have it about half way completed now.

I also tore apart my MRC and started fitting everything in. I have the trans mounted. I mounted it backward so I could utilize the space above the motor in the rear for the esc and rec. I plan on making a bulkhead between the cockpit and the tail section that I can mount the rec. on one side and the ecs on the other. This should keep everything compact and within the confines of the chassis.

I need to make some custom links and drive shafts as well. I am going to shorten up the front end and stretch out the rear. I hope that I don't have to remove the pan-hard bar from the frame to clear the rear end. It is not functional, just for looks.

Here is a few pic's of the progress. Let me know what you think.

Thanks!

I went ahead and built a mock-up platform so I could begin fitting everything. I snapped a few pic's so you could see the possible stance. First thing that I noticed was that I may have an issue with the pan hard bar. I think it might clear as is but if not I may just have to cut it off and attach it the other direction. Second is that there is little room for the steering servo to go where it was originally located, so I might have to slide it to one side and turn it on it's side. I have seen this done before, I just need to figure it all out.

Thanks for the comments.

I have been sick here lately so neither rig has progressed any. I am waiting on parts as well. I will update as soon as I can get some work done.

Not much to update. I am waiting on some $ to come in so I can get some parts. I have figured out the rear so that I can keep the rear section as is. I will get some pic's today and post later on.

Thanks again for all of the comment's!

Default Update

I finally got to order some parts for this one. I ordered some rod ends and set screws so I can make my links. I also picked up some used crushers from " the ghetto rig " . They come on mismatched rims so I think I am going to go for a redneck rock racer theme. That way I wont be afraid to thrash on this thing some. Here is a pick of the crushers to tide you over until I get the parts in.

Thanks!

Default update

Thought that I would update the progress.

I stretched the wheel base out to 10" so it would look more balanced. I knew that I was building this for bashing so I was not to concerned in doing this.

Once I finished cleaning up the chassis I wanted to give it that new tube look so I applied 4 coats of " Tetra Gun " liquid blue to the entire frame. I was amazed that even the brazed joints took the blue. This was some what of an experiment for the finish on my 1/6 racer. I like the way it came out. I also put 2 coats of gun oil on it to coat the tubes as well.

I installed a set of 3racing minizilla shocks with the original MRC shock ends installed. I drilled out the uppers to accept the 3mm hardware on top. I still need to install some fuel tubing to the front two to keep the chassis from hitting.

I also need to make the front upper links and get the drive shafts lengthened.

Well enough babbling and on with the pic's!!!!
