Exclamation Steering Ackerman..REdrill knuckles

playing around today i noticed the ackerman on these things is wrong when turing to the right for example the inside tire does not turn as sharp has the outside and its causing tire push...i read somewhere on here about people redrilling the knuckles on their OTA setups to correct this problem just wondering how i would go about doing this thanks

i also read about this here, then applied it. It's easy to do and woks very well. I drilled the holes large enough a broken M2 screw will fall through.

I eyeballed the location. With the steering straight ahead, imagine a line though the pivot of the knuckle that points straight ahead. Where it intersects the center of the arm drill the hole. I clipped the rest of the arm off for more throw.

All you have to do is eye ball a line with the kingpin or bolt for the knuckles or what ever you wanna call it and drill it. I drilled mine so i could thread a 3mm bolt through

Then i cut the rest offf an rounded it off.. After doing this you have to make longer steering arms so i bought some 6-32 all thread and some aluminum tubing and slide it over the rod and bent it a little so it wouldent hit on the diff when turning

=)

yess it seems to be little tighter..i also have my cups ground down but what it really helped was the tire push when i used to be descending something the way the stock geometery was it would push the vehicle stright but now its not like that anymore.. and upgrading to 3mm screws helped the stock 2mm would bend and snap like crazy

So the stock plastic knuckles won't break if you drill a 3mm hole thru it? I was wanting to do this mod but it doesn't look like it would leave much material in the knuckle arm?

I did this mod this week and there is enough material. Just make sure you center the whole.

Hehehe...bend and snap....I learned that from Legally Blonde

Switching to alum knuckles well REALLY start bending and snaping (lol) the 2m screws.

I just did this mod and just make sure that when you drill the knuckles that you don't go out too far. I made this mistake and when I put my wheels back on the side with the servo linkage (because of the height) was hitting my inner beadlock screws.

That was a concern for me also. I bought a set of Losi aluminum wheel hexes to install at the same time just in case. They are 2mm wider than stock.

Not to change the subject but what aftermarket aluminum knuckles would be the best to use for either doing this mod to or do they come with correct ackerman? Just in case my stockers don't hold up:-P after the mod

Egressor has the best IMO. They are high steer and zero ackerman.
