Yes, you need vent holes in either the wheels or the tires.

I prefer Crawler Innovations 1.9 foams in either the soft or medium firmness.

X2 on the Crawler Innovation foams stage 1s. Soft in front and medium In the rears. They are huge but I've not cut mine down.

Nova(crawler innovation) tests constantly, you simply cant go wrong with his foams,1.9,2.2,super it doesnt matter.

I use to use vent holes in my tires, dont, drill them into your wheels.

If you vent your tires, you can get your foems wet running through a puddle, ect. And then your foam wont act exactly the same and you weight in that wheel has slightly changed.

vent the wheel, and you will have a less likely chance of getting unwanted water in your foams, not only from water on course, but from cleaning your tires also.

Plus, if you know that water will be high enough to enter through the vent hole in the wheel, you can easily tape them up for that course.

Nova 1.9's for the win. Run them in the water no problem, just pulled them out after the comp and let them dry for a day or 2.

On my first 2.2 aluminum rims I didn't want to drill them or cut my new tires so I tried squeezing about 10-15% of the air out of the tires before tightening the 2nd beadlock ring. Made them work like 1:1 tires aired down with no chance of getting the foams wet. I've since ripped the tire sidewalls on my stock Berg knuckles and just clipped the tires anyway. It's just something you could try and if you don't like it you haven't done anything permanent yet. It's also useful for a trail rig that gets wet often.
