I have beat the crap out of alum gears with no worry,I went alum cuz they are lighter. I have put a beating on them also with no issue.

Alum will wear fast if its not greased.
Did you grease the gears?
did you buy them new?

Nope, no probs with mine. Ran them all last season. I just checked them and gave a relube the other day.
You may want to make sure all your bearings are good. And seated well.
Check your tranny case for any deformaties; cracks, etc.

One thing you have to becareful of is that whe you put the gears in that you clean all debre in the case. If you strip a plastic gear and dont get the shavings out you could strip out the metal gears.

I wouldnt oil them,I would grease them, oil can/will eventually work its way out of the case(leak) and create a mess.

Grease will stay put
