Default Overdrive mod long term effects?

Will doing this cause any excessive wear? I would think that it would be bad for the drivetrain...I could see it not hurting anything while crawling, but what about on just flat ground? Thanks

Thumbs up

It's only 1 tooth difference and it only causes the front wheels to spin a little faster than the rear. The tranny spins at the same speed and the axels don't know each other is moving at different speeds. The only thing is that is that if the traxxas pinion has some play in it, then you would cause some extra wear on the gears. Once you install it, just try to move the drive shaft back and forth near the pinion. If it moves, shim it or try to get the drive shaft closer to the axel housing while pushing in on the pinion.

Thank you very much! So even when going on flat ground at higher speeds, it will not hurt anything?

it will not hurt anything since it will only be a 1 tooth difference.

it will not cause any additional wear unless you do something that is not intended, like accidently putting a pebble in there while installing :(

Buy the mini revo ring and pinion set, replace the pinion in your front axle with the new one. It's a direct replacement.

Slaughter. I am going to piggyback off what you said. The ring and pinion gear is for some a direct plug and play fit however some have had to do some shimming to get the right gear mesh. I used a coke can and created shims out of it to get mine just right.

The front turns about a 16th of a revolution faster than the rear.

Just installed this. I love this mod. Can't really notice at first, but it does seem to "hug" a bit better when crawling. Turn radius is a bit better too. I had to shim mine, but not much. I just put one tiny metal shim in there.

No pics, but there is really nothing in there. Very simple process to open them and put them back together. Just becareful to not over tighten when putting them back together. My front wheels turn quite a bit faster than my rear. I was actually surprised how much.

Any shim will work. As long as the gears mesh It is really easy. Only part I had trouble with is getting the old pinion out. I had grease over the screw, and did not notice it was held in with a screw If you are going to do this and need further help, let me know and I will re-do it via webcam if you would like.

essentially, an overdrive mod acts like a propo on a MOA, the front wheels spin a bit faster than your rear, so you are able to do steeper climbs. because if you have a steep climb with your front pulling the same as your rear, youll just go roll onto your back.

i agree with you mike.. i wish a dig for the mini came out.. i guess its more of the issues of the rules not changing for a 1.9 with dig.

um, i believe that is the correct part.. better ask someone who has done the mod lol.

Shimming is just using a washer to push the gear out a bit to prevent slop, or improper mesh.

Im so tired of comp, rules. Im sure most are like me and just run them at home, no rules no one judging me. I like the small size and like gadgets, wish someone would make the dig. If its legal on larger sizes why is it not legal on the smaller one, like it matters

my luck if it ever came out it wouldnt fit up in my chassis anyways
no exrta space unless they use sub micro servo or something
