I'm assuming a stock spur gear? Doesn't sound over geared to me.

This motor is great! It is super smooth at a crawl but it can get up and GO. Now I just have to get used to it because I've been running a 18.5 Mongoose since day 1. Thanks Paul!

Jslick,
I ran for a few minutes this morning and I didn't notice any abnormal heat issues. I will get some more time in this weekend and I will post up if I have any issues.
setup:

17t contraband w/12t pinion
Sidewinder Micro
Castle BEC powering the servo only
Turnigy 500mAh 2s 20c

Thanks
John
The lower c rating batteries do seem to dump fast.I run the thinder power 45-90 c batteries at 325 mah. I can easily get a course with a pack.

Some people do seem to run hotter. There is a guy in our local club and his runs a touch hotter than mine. Could be a little to do with drivetrain, maybe weight,or driving style even,or maybe a little of everything.

with a 10t pinion you may be needing to much throttle to get your speed.
get a 12t pinion with the 60t spur and see what you get, thats the set up you
want IMO.

After a few packs mine for sure runs hot. It even warms up my lipo and that can't be good. I'd like to try a lipo with a higher C rating to see if that helps.

did some more work on it. Ran the 12t pinion but it looks like my 45c 325mAh 2s will not cut it, I only get about 3-4 min out of them. My 800mAh 2s work well, the lipos are getting hot and I puffed one of my older ones. Not sure what direction I want to go. I love the motor, just need to find a good battery and a way to keep it cooler.

Back to back packs will do that,I dont know if your allowing for a cool down between packs or not,in the summer heat it will be even worse.
A higher c rating may help, the thunder power 45c 90c burst are what I run and love em.
