| Dinky MRC build
I've been slowly collecting parts for a MRC build. I built a MRC for my nephew last Christmas and it came with a lot of extra parts... So I hung on to some of them for future use. Then a couple of months ago the Dinky came up for sale so I had to buy it. Then, I traded some scx 10 stuff I wasn't using for a MRC roller. First I put the Mayhem Engineering 5 Point Star wheels with Losi 1.9 Losi Rock Claws on it. Then I made a not so good rear four link mount from an extra servo mount and sorted out the extra links that came with the first MRC. Sorry not a better pic of the rear. I'll get that. Got Dinky? I installed a Traxxas plug because I was too excited to play and a 2s lipo from my MERV is the smallest battery I have. Also removed the diamond plate stickers. Last night I stole the wheels from it because I need them for another build... I may take that build to 2.2's though. If so, the Mayhem's will go back on. But, now a lot of you guys are running taller tires then the Rock Claws, right? To do list: work out the rear geometry, the whole thing is kind of floppy. new servo, the stock one is about dead. rear shocks. currently has stock rear and threaded front. a real 4 link rear mount. a front 4 link/battery mount. If I use these tall tires I think it needs wheel wideners! And it needs to be painted! |

Nice. Love those Mayhem wheels too, but 36 bolts per wheel must be a PITA. Look forward to the updates you've got planned. |

I found a Bastard Jr. right after the Dinky. I just picked up a set of used Axial axles and was planing on building this as a sportsman rig... yes, I know, reflection built 1 last year I was going to put the new RC4WD Mickey Thompson 1.9 Baja Claws on to match the 1:1. But if I want to compete with it in sportsman class, I think I'll need to go with 2.2 comp tires But that means the Mayhem wheels will be back on! |

prepping for paint. Who ever painted the chassis yellow, painted over the body & shock mount hardware, it took some effort to get them out. I had to drill out the side screws that were holding the side panels on. You can see my broken drill bit in the primer pic. plugged all the holes with toothpicks and Q-tips Primer: I forgot to get a shot once it was painted so the next update it should be painted and assembled. Another couple of pieces showed up. RCBros Front Servo Mount/4 link and rear Electronics/4 link. I have them both installed, I'll get a pic tonight. I need to cut some new links. I'm thinking about extending the WB a little but will need new drive shafts. |

They have been out of production for a while now but I've heard there may be a few new ones floating around... Your right about ride height, I still need to work that out. I'm still working on this slowly but surely. I have the RC Bro's front and rear link mounts installed. I picked up some used Fubar beadlocks for Axial 1.9's and put the Losi claws on them. I also just got a used Hitec servo for it. It's essentially ready to run except for links and clean up... maybe this weekend. I'd like to get the RC Bro's high steer knuckles and drag link when they come back in stock. I'm thinking of extending the wb some. I've been looking at the mini erevo drive shafts for that. Here's a pic I took for my FOFF rig last night, the Dinky is in the background with the new wheels on. I think I need to remove some weight from the front wheels... I had them pretty heavy from when they were on my Monster Beetle. | |

I've finally got back to this lil guy. I decided I will most likely never atend a comp, I just want to make it crawl I extended the wb to 9.5" with threaded rod and Traxxas rod ends... I may go another half inch. Going to add Junfac wheel wideners. And yesterday I ordered: 1 Locker, still need to get the others. Losi Mini Pro Front CV Drive Shaft Set Traxxas U-Joints and drive shafts Traxxas mini E Revo Ring Gear & Pinion Gear to overdrive the front. I still need: to make front upper links better shocks to decide on a tire, may go w/a larger dia. (currently has Losi mini rock claws - blue) a smaller lipo/s 2 lockers to decide if I'll clock the axles thinking of BWD shock mounts would like RC Bros high steer knuckles and drag link may get the BWD Above Axle Steering setup I'll get a pic tonight I read about the LCC front axle CVD mod but couldn't really get my head around it. Any other mods that will really help it crawl? I'm still running all the stock plastic CHubs, Knuckles and lock outs. Last edited by johnnyh66; 10-19-2011 at 09:31 AM. |

I still need to make upper front links. I'm thinking of extending the rear out a little farther and making bent lower links. I want to mount my batter on the rear plate but right now, I think it'll hit the back of the chassis. I really need to get at least 2 shocks, the rear's are warped and the springs are weak. I could use front shocks too. I put all the good one's I had on my nephews Mini GC2 build. And, I decided to switch back to the Mayhem's... I might do that tonight. drilled out BWD mounts, threaded rod, Traxxas rod ends with M2 hardware and GMade wideners. Thaxxas drive shafts and mini e-revo pinion in the front. Flat Irons on Axial SCX10 wheels with Fubar rings Last edited by johnnyh66; 11-19-2011 at 10:42 PM. |

I finally got the Dinky on the rocks. It did ok... I really need to get some shocks. It was kinda floppy and couldn't sidehill very well. I'm thinking of shorting the wb a little but I think I might buy some 1.9 Pit Bulls first. The cheap Flat Irons didn't hook up very well. It was cold though, about 40 on the lakefront. Here's some pics and a really short video. I had a lot of fun on the lakefront today. The rocks are pretty big for a mini. I was climbing up this tree to get up there. These 2 pics are the ledge in the video http://youtu.be/yBlfIZo086s Last edited by johnnyh66; 11-21-2011 at 08:21 AM. |

Looking good man! Def get rid of those flatirons. When I had my dinky it had a set of 3Racing shocks. They worked real well for being a cheesy company. I don't remember what size they were though. |

thanks Robotboy! I ordered a set of 1.9 Pit Bull Rock Beast last night! I took it out to the breaker wall again today. I pushed it harder and got more out of it this time. I rolled it several times, each resulting in the rear right shock popping off. I think I have parts to rebuild the upper shock end, it cracked. I snagged the rear mount several times while standing the rig up... not sure if I'll cut it or sell it. I'm gonna put the Pit Bulls on and then maybe bend the rear links/shorten the wb. I also decided to drill out my Mayhems. I'm not using them because of the Junfac wideners on the Dinky and I run 2.2's on everything else... Last edited by johnnyh66; 11-25-2011 at 11:48 PM. |

I mounted the Pit Bulls on my Mayhem wheels last night. All those little screws are a chore! I had trouble with one bead and that was it. I really like them, they are really sticky and pliable. I did vent them. I also had to drill out the Mayhem's to use the wideners. That was difficult for me to do because they cost so much... but I finally decided it was better to drill and use them than to have them sitting on the shelf. I added a few stickers... not sure about them yet. I also ordered BWD shock mounts for the rear. Doesn't look like they'll be here in time for vacation... I leave in the morning. The mini is already packed Last edited by johnnyh66; 12-02-2011 at 03:27 PM. |

Pics from the first day at the beach... life is good The Pit Bulls are impressive. They hook up on the slick dusty rock pretty damn good. Even covered in sand they still performed better than I expected! There were several pools of water where I could rinse them. I had a blast out there yesterday. I'm charging the lipos now for a run at a 2nd spot down by the marina. Last edited by johnnyh66; 12-07-2011 at 10:40 AM. |
