Default Novak 18.5 crawler

I have a Novak 18.5 crawler system. My motor is black. Looks like many others have the same system but with a silver motor. What is the difference?

The black motor is a new model or newer edition, and I'm pretty sure that thers is no difference

How is the esc holding up? Ive read some past posts and it seems to crap out. I found one locally for 120bucks, and id like to get it if it works. Other wise its mamba or a sidewinder and about 50 to 80 more

My son and I have been running them hard for a year now with absolutely no troubles. We started on 3s but honestly, they do so well on 2s there is no need to go higher. I wish they had just a bit more drag brake, but I can't complain.

Iv also had good luck with my mongoose, the only problem iv had was a cheap servo that would short out my mongoose but after I upgraded the servo I have not had a problem with it yet.

Without knowing your setup:
Run a bec for your servo if your not already.
Make sure the battery cutoff is set correctly.

I just got a used mongoose system the other day for a great price. I spent a while going thru the settings on the esc to get it dailed where I want it. Very smooth low end controll and good wheel speed. I turned the drag brake all the way up and it now works great. It comes from the factory at setting 3, I set mine at 10.
