| Xcelorin vs Mongoose?
Seeing the insanely low price of the MRC Race Roller I figured I would give it a try. I already have a Spektrum DX3.0 and Ace 1313 servo I am not using but I will need a motor and ESC. I have always been a fan of brushelss, I have been converting nitro to electric for years. Looking at the specs the Mongoose looks better but searching shows that people seem to have reliability issues with them. Searching for the Xcelorin does not yield a whole lot of info so it seems like it is not that popular, or it means people are having no issues so why post? I will not be competing with this at all I will mostly be using it indoors. Last edited by dadgummit; 06-17-2011 at 11:19 AM. |

While I don't own or have ran either system, I would suggest the Novak system because I know a guy who runs one and has had good luck with it, as well I have a Novak goat that has been running problem free for over a year. While the xcelorin system Losi had for their comp crawler had many problems and lots of them cought fire as well as went up insmoke under normal use. So that alone would make me leery and shy away from them xcelorin system. |

Also I only live about 8 miles from Novak in Tustin so if I have any issues I can just drive it in.

When I got my roller, I knew I was going with the Xcelorin system just because I've had really bad luck with Novak brushless ESCs. I had 2 go out within a month and 1 mid way thru the 1st battery pack. Ive since then switched over to Castle ESC with no issues. Novak does have a great customer service tho.. I havent heard anything bad about the 1/18 combo so I figured id give it a try. Losi / Horizon is also known for their great customer service so Im not too worried |

I have had and run BOTH of these systems. The Mongoose system melted (yes, literally) right before my final course at our state finals last year. That will be the LAST Novak product I will ever own. The Losi system, had a few programming flaws, but worked decently. Neither of those systems compare to what I run now....Crawler Mafia brushed motor and Castle Mamba Micro Pro. However, if you are looking for a basher setup, this probably isnt the best. These motors will get hot if you run them non-stop for several battery packs. |

From most of my searching I have seen that many people recommend other motors but everytime I google the specific recommended motor it is out of production, a sold-out limited run or otherwise no longer available.

I just got the MRC Pro and installed the Xcelorin system. I have never had a good Novak esc experience except for the GTB. Tried the M2 in my MOA but sold it within a month after it contributed to two DNF finishes. So far the Losi is working well on 2S and its BEC seems to be delivering the juice to the servo (full size Hitec digital). Throttle control is good and it's easy to program with the supplied card (no need to count blinking leds). |

I guess I've been lucky, my son and I have been running Mongoose systems hard for about a year now, and have had zero issues. The drag break could be a tad stronger, but I drove mine to the Missouri State Championship, so it's hard to complain.

I'm running the Hitec 5645, no BEC, and it does everything I need it to.

I have ran both systems, and currently running a mongoose because my servo fried my xcelorin esc and motor, and I took second place in state with the mongoose. I prefer the xcelorin over the mongoose for one reason and that is the low end control at low speeds on a 2s

Didn't the 1.9 back to back world champ run a near stock MRC Pro with the Xcelorin?
