What's going to break?

I'm about to get into an MRC based scaler, and, since I'm sitting on the wrong end of a 9000 mile international shipping chain (I live in Japan, no Losi support here), I'd like to order most of the spares I'm going to need along with my truck. I'll be using the MRC driveline, electronics, and most of the steering, and, if anyone can help, I'd like to know what's going to break.

I've done my searches, and I think I have a good list of replacement parts that I'll want install right off:

LOSI LOSB1435 Center Metal Diff Locker

LOSI LOSB1433 DIFF LOCKER FRONT/REAR

Traxxas 1539R U-Joints with 3mm Grub Screws

and I'm going to be using Traxxas Jato (I think, already have them anyway) drive shafts.

Is there anything else that you'd put on the immediate replacement list? There isn't a lot of terrain here, so the truck won't be driven too hard.

Thanks in advance!

Consider replacing the stock servo with a full sized one - the stock on will only last so long under strain.

The axles with metal lockers are pretty tough units for small size.
Motor, ESC and radio are usually good performers.

I would advise to; improve the axles; by replacing the four screws that hold the axle casing together (around the diff area), with slightly longer ones, and then fit nuts to the back, this lets you tighten the screws a little more, reducing the axle case flex (it tries to seperate under load = gears slipping).

don't forget the threadlock / locktite on all screws - the 2mm threads work loose after a while!

Good luck and all the best . .

make sure that you order a few extra sets of the axle ring and pinion gears.

Do not use threadlock on ALL screws, only those that screw into metal. Threadlock has been known to soften and weaken plastic. Just don't overtighten the screws that go into plastic.

Knuckles, C's, drivelines, shock cups, cvd pins. Tires work well but plastic wheels strip pretty easy. Good luck, I just got one and love it. "thumbsup"

You can buy plastic thread lock at the auto parts store. Works great.

I've broken more stock rod ends on my mini than all my other trucks combined.

Why even bother, the screws in plastic stay put unless you strip the plastic by overtightening. For loose screws in plastic all you need is a drop of CA.

A great fix for that is to run a longer set screw. They are breaking because the set screw doesn't fill the cavity of the rod end thus leaving a hollow section.

Slightly delayed thanks to all, I'll be ordering soon, and building right after that!

I just got mine a while back (MRC pro) and the only thing i have broke so far was the shock, the shock end pulled out of the plastic end, no biggy. I will have to try the ca glue today, even though i just bought some replacements shock ends yesterday:ror:

I had a whole bunch of issues that I think were all started because my CVD pin was loose. Be carefully with the HR gears internally. I found the aluminum locker to not hold up but again that could have been because of this CVD issue.

Everything else is on target in my experience. Maybe would not hurt to stock some axle housings in an order though. Cheap and the link mounts do break occasionally.

Thanks.

Hmm, looks like a spare truck or two :)

Well, the order is in, now if my promised present of a chassis and shocks ever gets ordered, I'll be in business!

Thanks for all the tips!
