Default MRC Pro Chassis Screw Size

I hate to have to ask this, but I haven't found a clear answer. Some say the screws are 1.27, some say 1.3, some say neither of those fit. My 1.27 didn't fit. Can someone confirm the size so I can buy the correct tool?

Thanks

Depends, most are either 5/64" (or 2mm), 1/16" or .050". That's on the Pro Roller and the Mini-T.

A good ground 0.050" works for me.

It is aggravating at times. I wish they would have used 2.5mm hardware instead of 2mm.

I just checked some areas out on my MRC Pro roller. These appear to cover all sizes of screws that I can see without dismantling it.

Chassis side plates: 1.27mm and 2mm
Driveshafts: 1.27mm and 1.5mm
Skid plate into transmission: 1.5mm
Axles: 1.27mm, 1.5mm, 2mm
Beadlock Wheels: 2mm
Servo screws: 2.5mm

I just got into the MRCs so this is my first encounter with 1.27mm screws. In fact, I just picked up my 1.27mm hex key tonight so I could install bent links onto my MRC Pro. The hex key I bought is part # 39149 on this page:
http://www.bondhus.com/products/l-wrenches/bodyg2.htm I picked it up at a local tool store that sells highend power tools and the like.

Ha, its funny because you guys gave different answrs as well. It makes me almost want to just buy another chassis. Ill pick up a better quality 1.27 to see if that works. I need to change my rear links and outboard my shocks, but have been unable to.

Hudy makes nice wrenches. The Losi hex set isn't too bad but you need standard not metric.

It will be easier to find hexes marked .050" than 1.27mm.

I bought a 1.3 from mcmastercarr.
Works well.
But I had to buy a L shaped one, I wanted one with a handle, but you have to buy a full kit.

1.27mm is exactly the same as .050". Or 1.27mm is the metric equivalent of .050 inches.

Just buy a very good wrench. Associated has one as does Losi, Hudy, EDS, etc. Be careful with Integy, their wrenches are brittle and the tip can snap off in the screw (I have one embedded in a set screw which will need to be drilled out to remove).

My 1.3mm fits better than the .050 IMO.

Could be because the screw head is stripped from a poor .050" wrench.

My guess is that the quality/tolerances of hex keys (and screws) and so forth can play a large role in what size fits better...SAE or Metric, 1.3mm or 1.27mm/.05", etc.

When I did my testing I tried both SAE and Metric hex keys on my MRC Pro and overall the Metric seemed to fit better or were so close I couldn't tell a difference. I have cheap $1.50 hex key sets that I use for 2mm and above and now I use the Bondhus Goldguard keys for 1.27mm and 1.5mm as they seem to be much more precise and I don't think they will strip the tiny screws as easily. Sometime when I stop back at the tool store again i'll have to pick up some tiny SAE hex keys as well.

FYI (from Google):
5/64" = 1.984375mm
.05" = 1.27mm

I realized I had a decent quality .050 and it works, but does not fit tight so it seems that a 1.3 would be a better fit. From what I understand the screws themselves are standard 2mm, it's just the head that sucks, so I will probably replace them all with 1.5 or 2mm hexes. Seems like the better solution to prevent stripped screws in the future.

The type of head affects the allen wrench size. The correct wrench for a 2mm button head screw is smaller than for a 2mm socket head cap screw.

Thanks. I knew there was something with the relationship of head size. I might just go to socket heads. Stripping one of the .050's scare me because it would be near impossible to remove without other damage. I beleive the MRC RTR uses 2mm button head screws but uses a larger hex.
