Default dstrbd1's Son's MRC build

After looking for a bit earlier this year I scored myself a nice little MRC.
Having already placed 4th in the 2009 Nationals being driven by BRANDON this little guy was tuned really nice from the start. Just needed to throw in a servo and receiver.

Current Specs:
Castle mini sidewinder ESC
Hitec 5645 servo
Homebrew OTA steering
Traxxas Overdrive mod
Darksoul limited edition Blue Ti chassis
Titanium links
Darksoul servo mount plate drilled for full size servo
Darksoul Inboard shock mount
Darksoul OMF Wheels
HB Rovers
Hot Racing Transmission gears
Duratrax Shocks
Holmes Hobbies Mini Torque Master motor
Aluminum C's
CVD's
HD lockers

First thing I did was make a homebrew over the axle steering setup using RcBros knuckles, some all thread, and revo rod ends, which was a huge improvement.

Uncased spektrum receiver tucked on the rear links.

Tonight I finally got around to cleaning up the wiring.
Started with this.

And ended with this

Forgot to mention that I also did the Traxxas overdrive mod in the front. Guess I forgot to take pics. Sorry

Definitely a huge improvement though. This little guy climbs way better than I ever thought it could.

Went out to practice the other day, but ended up coming home early after stripping the transmission gears after about 2 minutes of crawling. Worst part was that it took me less time than that to break the 2.2. Just wasn't my day I guess.

Just installed the Hot Racing metal transmission gears. Gonna see how well they hold up.

Gears held up great........... but the plastic drive shafts weren't real happy the the HH mini Torque Master.

Guess its time to upgrade. (My favorite part of this hobby)

My son has been begging me for a crawler like Daddy's so I made a few changes and handed him the controller. He was so excited.

I finally installed the RcBros tierod.

I replaced the shocks with some Losi's and out boarded them for stability.

Since Rock Thrasher did such an amazing job on the paint I needed to relocate the battery so I could keep the engine on the body.

Rock Thrasher really did an awesome job with the paint.

Here it is in all its glory. I know I am going to cringe the first time he rolls it, but that is what I built it for though.

That body is sick!

I have not seen that chassis before, it is very long in the skid. How does it do on break over?

Thanks DickyT. Rock Thrasher did an awesome job with it. As for the chassis I was actually concerned about it myself when I got it as far as breakovers. But only until I got it on the rocks. I was extremely amazed at the lines it was pulling. The guy I bought this MRC from actually placed 4th in the 2009 nationals with it. My son is excited to get it on the rocks. I gave this one to him because I am changing to the Mini Rockshow which I hope to have complete soon.

So my boy has been bugging me to take him outside with his new crawler. I told him to go get dressed and well he did just that. He definitely has a strange sense of fashion. He was proud though. He did surprisingly well. Of course we now have our first scratches though.

And our first rollover

Of course even worse than the first scratch was when I walked into my room later that night where his mini had fallen off the tv on the dresser about 7 feet. All it did was bust one of the rear shock mounts off the axle. Luckily I was doing the D lux shock / link mount mod on mine. I was able to swap housings and he was back in business.

Nice. Is that a tire that you cut up on the stand?

Yes it is. The original stand top was to wide for crawlers so I made a new top with a electrical cover and a pvc plug. The tire made a nice surface I thought.

First scratches are always the hardest. It'll get easier

except from a 7 foot drop. Ouch. At least nothing worse happened.

We got a chance to take the mini's out for some practice yesterday. Treyton is really starting to get the hang of it. I set some gates out for him to practice with. Once he catches on I am in trouble. That little Darksoul chassis just flat out performs.

Well its been a while and this little crawler is still kicking butt. Treyton has really improved on his driving. I set up a full 10 gate course yesterday using marks from an old comp and he was doing awesome. -17 first run. My wife made a point that since he has been driving the car for a year now with my old DX3E controller it was time to replace the skins on it. For ones that have his name and not mine So a quick e-mail to Michelle at Krawler Konceptz and she came up with these awesome skins to match his car.

Thanks Michelle he keeps asking about them everyday now..

That's awesome...lol. Nice to see the hobby passed down. I can't wait til my son is old enough to really start getting into it. He's 1 1/2 now and every time I work on my rcs he's right there with the tools trying to help work on them...I love it! Btw...those are really nicely built minis. I like the dark soul chassis...I had one a while back. They seem to be rare to find anymore.
