Default Jeepsohigh's first Mini rockcrawler "little sanchez fawker"

After driving 2.2 pro for the last 2 years I have decided to try competing with the 1.9. WOW it sure is different than MOA

Here is a "built" thread since its already got it together.

I bought a couple of used MRC's on here and then tore them both down and built this one.

Specs:
  • DuraTrax Gatekeeper Mini GC3 Comp Chassis Kit
  • Losi pro shocks
  • Losi aluminum C's
  • Losi aluminum knuckles
  • Losi aluminum rear lockouts
  • Losi Aluminum steering links
  • VP little harrys/VP weights
  • Red dot rovers for tires
  • NOVA med foams
  • Metal lockers
  • MIP driveshafts
  • Losi CVD axles
  • Tekin FXR
  • Bills custom wound 17 turn brushed motor
  • 12 tooth pinion
  • CC BEC set to 6volts
  • Hitec 7955 steering servo
  • aluminum servo arm
  • 603fs receiver with ANT. tucked inside case
  • 4PK radio
  • TP 45c 2 cell lipo
  • Cutom painted body

I am still going to have to tune on it. I will probibly go to some high clearence links in the rear. Im going to do the underdrive/overdrive mods to the axles and I might mess around with springs and shock oil but for now I will try and drive it the way it is.

Im going to compete with it at crawlapalooza in a month so I need to get some drive time under my belt.

that setup is very close to mimicking the 1.9 I got from bmuzz. you will like the GC3, till you go bodiless/delrin. My only hang up was the rollover capability ( or lack of) with a truck body, and small clearance issues on tight courses.

looks like its gonna be dangerous! keep us posted..

So Far I do like it. The only thing so far I dont like is it seems a bit top heavy.

I do have a proto bodyless chassis to do some testing on so soon so I will be building another MRC.

Note to self, do not drive the mini as hard as you do the berg

Anyone make "super 300" CVD's for these?

Huh, Thanks Chad Shows what a 1.9 newbe I am, After your post I did lots of searching and found out a few things
  • Losi CVD's suck
  • 300 cvd's still are not available
  • Losi LCC CVD's are and easy upgrade
  • The search feature worked well

I've only broken one side and then I was told that they were redesigned. I'm not sure which is which, but I have a single mrc cvd that looks way different than my others. It also has way less throw than the ones from my other pair. I have had great luck with the newer ones.

There's no way in hell you can push this truck like your berg!

and you might want to carry and extra ring&pinion or 3.

I'll rephrase. If you run a tight mesh (I throw a couple of shims in under the pinion gear) then you won't go through so many gears. The pinions wear quicker than the rings, so every other time that I change the pinion I change the ring. You will hear a loud click (the same click that's common with a stock xr10) but you won't shear gears.. they will just skip and eat away at each other. You can finish out the day as long as you don't hammer down too much. Trying to throttle out of a bind and verticals where you have to hop and give serious throttle seem to hurt the most.

Adding longer bolts on the axle with 2mm nuts has greatly improved the lifetime of my R+P gears. Actually dont think ive had to replace any since the shim mod

Nice parts list, should perform well!

Good info as well, Thanks!!!

I had my first comp with this truck today and it just straight performed. I took first place

I picked up some alluminum transmission gears and a alluminum spur gear to put in this week and I think I might try the underdrive mod as well.

Stay tuned

Great build Brian.

I think you have built an outstanding second place worthy 1.9

My 1.9 should be up soon (But I won't have all the fancy stuff like you )

Second place?, I think you give me too much credit. Louis is gonna kick both our asses. So I will just be third behind you.

Well, I did a little more work to the old mini.
  • I installed a full set of HR metal gears
  • Installed a HR metal spur gear
  • coated the new shiny gears in "rock lube"
It not too much but its an update

I

Did Comp it at Crawlapalooza and got my arse kicked. Its alright tho, I learned allot for the next big comp.

Here are a few pics of my 8th place drivings

I picked up a BWD motor plate in OK from Don but I have yet to install it.

Well with the Turkey crawl in a week I decided to get off my butt and get some more things done on the Mini

First I thing I did was the caster mod. This is very easy for sure. Take off c hub, grind some new flat spots about where the mounting screw should be, drill a small pilot hole for the mounting screws, install screws. Heck my steering links even worked fine, I just moved the tirod to the bottom on the knuckle arm. Make sure the hubs are the same angle on both side before you button it up.

I also got the BWD motor plate that I bought at Crawlapalooza installed.

This is a very nice addition to the heap.

Next I put on some NOVA 4" Rovers tires and foams on (thanks Ashton for the deal) These things are nice, and should help with the ground clearance for sure

I also installed some Jun fac wheel wideners to make use of all that caster.(thanks Ashton again)

Also installed a Robotronics Servo arm.

Last but not least I went 3 cell on the lipo's

I think she is as ready as she is going to be and I cant wait to run it in Alabama.

Quick question. What did you do with the shrink wrap to those junfac wideners. I also notice you had then with the pins outside. What mod have you done to do that?

They are flipped around, trimmed, a new slot is cut for the pin and the shrink wrap is there to make sure that the pin doesn't fly out if things loosen up.
