Mongoose system...what size 8.5 to 18.5t???

Well my Losi insane motor finally crapped out and was looking at the contrabrand and HH motors but the brushed motors are only about 30 bucks cheaper then the mongoose set up. So I plan to go this route but I was wondering if any of you guys have run the different size Novak systems and what you thought of them. I Plan to run this system in my Samurai scalier which is a bit on the heavy side. I want wheel speed cuz that's my style but still need enough torque to pull this pig up a hill"thumbsup"

Here's some links to the systems I'm thinking about I found on flea bay!

Novak Mongoose Micro Pro Brushless System 8.5T 3050 NIB | eBay

Novak Mongoose Micro Pro Brushless System 10.5T 3051 | eBay

Novak Mongoose Micro Pro Brushless System 13.5T 3052 | eBay

And here is a couple shots of the scalier it's going in.

thats a superb looking scaler, love the fourth shot over the tree roots, the font axle looks fab dropping into the hole.

(sorry cant help on the motor issue, I only ran HH minis in my MRC, the 33T was superb, the 22T even better for comp use. Sadly they seem to be unavailable now)

Thanks! this is my old comp rig, I traced my Kamikaze Mini zero chassis on some metal and made it a scalier. I would love to get a hh motor but for the money, kinda hard not to spend the xtra coin and get a new esc too.

i run the 18.5t in my 1.9 comp

Yeah but comp trucks dont go in water like scalers do. I would not want to run a sensored motor in a potentially submerged area, or even get it real wet for that matter.

My Toyota Tacoma scalier is what I use for MUD and Water...The Sammi is my Very scale rig which is more of a trail rig I would never submerge this ride.

My last mudding picture before I did a major rebuild.

If you run anything other than the 18.5 you will not have instant reverse.

Now that's a great piece of info"thumbsup" I wonder why though...just doesn't make sence why.

I was told anything other than the 18.5 was for go fast cars. So, if you want instant reverse, you need a 18.5 ESC and then a 18.5 motor timing board. I got as far as getting the timing board for a 10.5 system but lost interest when I figured out that I could not use my ESC and I had to buy a new 18.5 specific one.

So, it actually is do able, you just need to do a couple of things to make it work.

Get the 18.5 and make sure it's the "crawler system" not the go fast...."thumbsup"

Thanks guys, Another member on here sent me a pm and offered me a xcelerion 18.5 crawler system at a price I couldn't turn down so that's what I'm getting. I know they don't make them anymore but hopefully it will last me a good while which I'm sure it will.

Any opinion's on the losi brushless set up?

The losi system will work great in a scaler. The drag brake is a little weak for a comp crawler, but fine for a scaler. You have plenty of gearing options with the mini-t pinions. Mine never got hot even when zooming around. You can only use windows XP to program the ESC via PC or you can use the field card, but options are limited.

I'm running windows 7 is there a link or patch to make it work?

Slaughter 11-07-2011 02:59 AM

I installed XP in VMWare to use the Xcelorin software, but this should also work:

Download Windows XP Mode
