Thanks Jim! It's working great too. I was lucky enough to have a buddy cut some rear axle weights prior to our last comp and will be working with them this week in order to reduce their weight and provide the ability to adjust weight as needed. Right now they weigh 2.2oz per side which is too much for a permanent set up...although the rig sticks to sidehills with that much weight on it!

I'll post up some pics of these after a few changes are made.

I was cleaning all of my tires from this weekends rainy comp and figured I'd have some fun and run the 2.2 tires and wheels on the MRC...BAM 1.9 Super Class!

Haha I tried my 2.2 rovers on my mini. It performed suprizingly well although the centre of gravity went why up. A tyre inbetween would be sweet.

U don't get much steering with the 2.2 tires on them. They do crawl better in a straight line.

Ryan did u take it outside on the rock pile

Here's what I've been working on lately. A friend of mine made these rear weight slugs which fit really well and accomplish the task nicely, but at 2.2oz they just weigh too much for a permanent solution. I set out to reduce them to 1oz or less and to get the weight as far out on the axle as possible AND to be able to add weight as necessary. Here's my progress:

Here they are at their new 1oz weight...and with a little more to lose after drilling some holes and such...

Comparison of how they looked at 2.2oz...

With the tire/wheel mounted they don't hang out at all now...

This is how they looked when mounted as I received them...

Those are looking good Ryan. I've been thinking about something similar. Is there a reason why you have them rotated towards the rear?
I see you've been doing some BEC mods; I noticed the little rectangle piece in the pics.

Yessir I pulled the "extra" piece of board off of a BEC I was wiring up for a customer. It does serve as a heat sink to some extent, but it's not soldered to the board or attached in any other way than what equates to some double sided tape so I remove them to save a little more space.

Right now the weights are just kinda thrown on there...not necessarily in the position they'll be run in. I'll most likely run them straight up and down when installed. I plan to spend a little time in the shop tomorrow and get the weight for the other side trimmed down. The tools I have to work with don't make it incredibly easy, but a little patience goes a long way!

If I don't run out of daylight I'll go ahead and drill and tap them for the extra weights. I might even drill some extra holes in the holders in order to reduce their weight even more. I think they could handle few extra holes above the axle center line

That's the way I've been doing all my BEC's recently and I haven't noticed any ill effects from removing it. Makes them lighter and more compact too.
I figured you wasn't going to running the weights in that position. I'm going to try to get started on some for mine tomorrow and I don't even have any fronts weights yet.

Well I got side tracked because the 4 link mount I picked up from Robotboy showed up so that opened up some new possibilities with my steering setup. I was able to center the servo...but chose to offset it to the passenger side just a touch thinking that if I was going to keep weight up there it might as well be off on the side that needs it more than the other due to torque twist. I was also able to add a bit more caster and then went to work on the knuckles, chubs, and weights to provide as much steering as possible. I think I could squeak out just a hair more, but I'm pretty sure what I've got now is about as much as I'll be able to use effectively. Check it out...

Thanks guys! I really do need to get out to the shop tonight and finish the rear weights so I might be able to test this rig out this weekend if I have a chance to get on some rocks!
