Default Tech questions-- Slipper clutch, shocks, tire foams..

First of a few questions I have is, do the MRC Pros have slipper clutches built in? I have a stock motor and find that in a bind the motor will stop. Is this normal or do I need to set the slipper (if there is one)?

Second question is when you outboard the shocks, is it usually on the top or the bottom? I've read where guys have done one or the other but still unsure. I have an outboard kit and took it off due to lack of suspension articulation. Additionally, I see where some even put limiters in their shocks. I thought the point to rock crawling was maximum suspension articulation. Like water over rocks.

Tire foams. I took mine out and see a benefit to not running with foams and wonder if anyone does this? Opinions welcome.

It does have a crude slipper but I don't suggest using it. If your motor stalls during a bind, it's simply because the stock motors are far too weak for any real crawling. Get a different motor, you'll be glad you did.

You outboard the shocks at the bottom, I've never seen anyone do it at the top. Too much articulation will allow your crawler to twist back on itself. Limiting your shocks can be of great benefit depending on what shocks/links/chassis/......... you are running.

Nobody I know of who actually comps with their MRC's runs without foams. You need foams to give you better side-hilling and to keep the tire from wadding up. I like to run the C.I. single density softs in front and mediums in back. The softs in front help me to grab more steering and get over ledges while the mediums in the back help me to get up steeper climbs.
Hope this helps.

I keep reading about the 'outboard kits",could someone enlighten me please?
I know that this is meant to put your shocks more outward, but is there a "kit" available to do this?

Yes, you'll need to order this.

I actually went this route myself. I went to my LHS and got the 2-56 x 3/4" screws, got home and could not get them to slide thru the shock eyes. They were just a hair too big. I picked up a second pack at a different LHS and ended up with the same results. I ended up taking a trip to ACE hardware, picked up some 2mm screws and they worked perfect. This is on a RTR, not sure if the shock eyes are different on a MRCP.

Yup, I had to bore out the eye a bit with a dremel. Sorry I forgot to include that in my post. I like having the 2-56 as opposed to the 2mm, it just feels beefier (y'know, for a little tiny screw )

Wow, that's a big motor! I tried a few different motors, but found the Losi Insane to be the best..great drag brake and great wheelspeed. I use a 10T pinion with a Hot Racing 62T spur...
