was roughly a 1/18 hilux. fully toy grade tho. grille was wrong, among other things. same model body as the TF2 body, but smaller. it was given to me, and has seen a couple different builds, this one being the most highly modified.

thanks for the interest

I like it !
You've done a great job modding it, at least as much as mine but you went crawler and i went scaler.
I'm also the one commenting on your youtube videos sometimes (daver18qc / Dave R.)

Right, wrong, or otherwise......this build is totally awesome.

Keep working the bugs out.

I've been working on something not industry standard myself, and it's been problematic.

No harm in trying though.

That's what a hobby is supposed to be, fun, interesting, inventive......

thanks guys, i wanna run a chassis mount servo for steering, but im thinking about mounting the servo next to the transmission to keep weight in the center of the chassis.

had plans to run a bellcrank style steering setup, still trying to work out how to go about it and also not cause any binding issues. ill get there, and i think thats what will make this truck stand out even more so.

so ive been playing with scx and larger scale trucks of late, but today i had a 1.55 beadlock let go and in the middle of it my attention came back to this little truck.

i cut n shut my last single rover i had sitting around to see how tall it would be afterwards. and then i jumped in and finally mounted the front shocks.

yes, thats a 1.55>

mounted

body on, with reduced-to-1.55 treps.

I may have missed it somehow but I'm curious, what brass stock are you using in the chassis? Tube or solid rod, and what diameter? I've considered whipping one up in brass to accept a few old MRC parts a few times now, but was always unsure of the strength. You think it'll handle a good roll or fall?

hey mate, its Precision Metals 2mm brass tube for the most of it. i use some flat panels, some larger tube. with normal electronics solder 60/40 lead/tin and a butane jet lighter torch.

its a little brittle, but with enough triangulation its not likely to just fall apart on ya.

ive managed to bend and snap the brass before ripping the solder joint on more than one occasion so its reasonably strong, but this isnt a "comp" truck so it will be treated more as a scaler.

I have some 3/32" rod here (like 6 feet of it...lol) from various projects, and am more than familiar with soldering it. I actually really like using the Novak branded high silver content solder (only 5% silver, not to be confused with silver solder, which is actually closer to brazing) and a nice paste flux with my Weller 45W iron(750+ degrees!). Your build just may have prompted me to whip something up to bash around the yard. I still have at least one whole MRC and some Exceed parts in the parts bin, minus some odds and ends.

Edit: I guess the Novak stuff I have is only 3% silver. With a little flux it flows SOOO nice though. Strong joints at just over 60/40 melting temp.

It's gonna be a bit yet, if I do try a tube chassis rig. Waiting on goodies for another project first. A tuber would just end up filled with stock parts, and ran in the yard.
