| DIY clocking mod
Ok, I searched in numerous diff ways to find this mod already posted an didn't find it as a thread of its own. As I had a axle that wasn't done yet, I thought it a good time to do it.. So here goes... Tools list... Dremel with a cutting wheel Drill with a 1/16" drill bit, its 1.4mm to the 1.7mm that the chub to axle screws are.. Screw driver or whatever ur screws are.. Parts... Ur axle an ur chubs.. So ya start off by pulling ur chubs off an taking them apart from ur knuckles an axle shafts, for the easiest handling. This is all stock, you can see the flats in the chub an on the housing.. I use the holes in the chubs an the edge of the flat as my area to grind the flat into. It's leaves you not to clocked an not not clocked enough, mainly the best place to get the most meat for ur new screw hole.. make sure you take it slow an one pass at a time on both sides to get it down to fit the chub snug.. an this is what the first side is goin to look like.. I flipped the chubs over to see the sides I'm working on. I'm not sure on all chubs but the 3-4 sets I have are all clocked a touch.. Now I got both grinded flat to fit the chubs.. I eye ball the chubs to be where I want them an drill one, insert screw, roll it over an drill the other side. I then line up the other side to look to be in the same place an repeat. I use the lines on the axle an lines on the chubs to get them straight an even.. And ur done.. A little helpful info on drilling.. wish I would of had when I did my first one.. lol I drill thru the chub hole an into the axle at just a touch off center, aiming the drill bit away from the stock hole. The more meat you hit the better.. Now here is another little tid bit.. if you feel this clocks ur chubs too much, you can flip ur chubs from side to side. As said, they should be clocked stock. If you flip them side to side it will put the stock clocking forward an give you less clocking but still more then stock.. hope that just made sence.. lol Ok, that's all I got.. hope it helps. If I missed anything or any one has any additional info, let me know ill put it in there.. Last edited by winnerone23; 01-24-2013 at 04:16 PM. |

Thanks for that, man. Need to do mine soon. My late model shocks came in today and I should have my upper link mounts from BWD by the first of next week if not sooner. Ready to get my low pro rockin'! Next step is to get aluminum chubs and knuckles.

| Re: DIY clocking mod Nothing changes other then angle of ur knuckle arms. You may have to move ur tie rod or drag link for clearance. It can make ota easier to do or just give you more options for high clearance steering with ur tie rod. It all depends on what ur using.

I was told an have read when starting with the mrc's that It's not needed but helps, so any is good but too much is bad.. its a trial an error per setup that I have found out, thru half a dozen diff mrc's.. that's the little tid bit that's nice bout bein able to flip ur chubs from side to side to give you more or less.. | |

Do you have any issues with shocks or other parts binding?

I would think just like in a car it increases the contact area of your tires in a turn for more traction.Look up Ackermann angle for a better explination. Thanks winnerone23 |

clocking doesnt change ackermann, it changes caster and helps keep the tires out of the shocks/links when you have a high steering angle.

I see. So this may be beneficial if I find my tires binding on my links/shocks while playing, or if I wanted to try running larger tires?
