There isn't much recovery for any of them really, most of the time its just the luck of Where you get to recover.. it may help in the dirt or flat rocks but not in a rock garden area(with holes or what not) Looks over performance in this case! Lol

LOL! I couldn't agree more on the ugly. That's why I ripped it off there and made a different one. You're probably right about the luck of the recovery, somewhat. VW bug bodies are super popular for a reason, though. There must be more to it than luck. The more I look back at the photos, the more I'm reminded of why that top isn't on the mini...... Just trying to do whatever I can to build a better rig. |

Lol... the bug body has the exception.. it works front to back and side to side, for recovery. It still gets it share of roll overs by hand. From what I have seen.. its the one body I would run, for sure! Ur rig has a real good setup.. now just for drive time to make it better. |

Well well well.. guess who's rig can do some Work!? After sending my mini to Nats last weekend and our local post office being screwed up, it didn't arrive like tracking said it would yesterday, so I asked Kevin if I could throw down with his rig today at the comp... Well this little guy brought home 2 podium finishes today!!!! I was very pleased with the performance and setup. Thanks Kevin, for letting me run it.. I grabbed up a 1st place and Kevin with a 3rd place, right behind the 1.9 champ from last year, Jslick.. Very well driven by Kevin, it was a pretty good field today with around 8 rigs(give or take) Tho the steering could use some work.. I kid I kid! Drive time will be ur biggest help bud, the rig has it goin on! |

Thanks a lot Troy. Sorry about the steering issues. Turns out the bolt holding the drag link to the servo arm had worked loose. It was just barely hanging on. I guess swapping in a new servo at 2am the night before the comp wasn't such a good idea......oops. I'm glad I was able to help you out since your rig was delayed. X2 on the drive time. I truly see all the work I've put into this rig was worth it. With an experienced driver behind the wheel, it seems to stay shiny side up more often. Very cool for me to watch you drive it yesterday. Heck, until yesterday, I wasn't aware that driving straight down a rock, dead-on into a tree stump was going to affect my score.....that's some of that "experience" you keep telling me about.... Knowing what I know now, perhaps I won't do that next time..... |

Well it would seem I'm a slow learner. I let Winnerone23 beat me with my own rig again today..... I'm starting to think this "my mini is lost in the mail" story is all a sham.... Troy got first place with my rig again at the comp today. I did manage to eek out second place finish right behind him, so I'm stoked about that. I will start to wonder if his mini is still "missing" when we meet again at Crawltoberfest next month........I'm slow, but not stupid.... |

Then again, the mini mantis would of been awesome at the comp, all kinds of rip rap clearance.... I miss my #1 girl and I can't wait to throw it down on the rocks side by side with Mary! Great driving yesterday, you may have got beat in 1.9 with ur own rig, but you beat me straight of the podium in 2.2s..:cool:

Got my first top spot at Crawltoberfest last weekend. That's 3 first place finishes in a row for this rig (only 1 driven by me). This mini is working very well, and I'm getting better at driving it. I've made some "on the fly" changes to it and haven't been keeping up with the updates, so here are a couple. I changed my front and rear uppers to run parallel instead of triangulated. They aren't perfectly parallel, only slightly triangulated. Here's the front as it has been through the last 3 comps. In the rear I threw together a rough bracket that raised the links for better geometry. I'm not satisfied with the finish, but it was a "test piece" when it was constructed. It's been working so well, I just can't seem to find the time to build a cleaner version. Now that the season is over, I'll finally take the time to make a one piece unit with some nice rounded edges and so forth. I have it sitting on aluminum spacers so my comp batteries fit under the mount. This keeps the battery directly on top of the pumpkin for the best c.o.g. possible with a rear mounted setup. Hey man, awesome rig! Big supporter of the home-brew mods. Your thread has me pondering whipping up my next at home, or having a design laser cut. Out of curiosity, what are you using to cut all the plastics? I skimmed the thread, but didn't find any info. I may have missed it.
