Maxstone 16 motor question

Hey all, those of you that have experience with the maxstone, Will a Traxxas titan 380 fit the motor plate? I've read the xtreme 380x will fit the losi mrc which the maxstone is a clone of. I already have a spare titan 380. By the way, I picked up the maxstone for $90 shipped for my son, but it's not fast enough for either of us. I also have a 350 mah 2s 7.4v. Will this battery be feasible to use on the stock esc that has a 2.5v capacitor?
Thanks

Re: Maxstone 16 motor question

I did the Titan 380 mod to mine (kulak but same as maxstone!) and i'm afraid to say the stock mount plate won't work.
The screws are further apart on the 380 motor and the center hole is not big enough for the 380 either.
Nothing a little drilling can't solve, though !

Also, you must be confusing what the ESC's capacitor's specs really are because a 2s LiPo is just fine, as long as you use some kind of external LiPo buzzer like this :
11.1V Battery Alarm Buzzer for RC Helicopter - Free Shipping - DealExtreme
(it says it's for 11.1v (3s) but works for 7.4v (2s) too)

A LiPo gives better kick to the stock motor, but the Titan 380 is an upgrade for sure, except you're gonna transform your crawler into more of a basher, because the 380 is very torquey and fast when geared high but lacks low-end even when geared 9t pinion.

If you want a cheap motor that fits the stock plate and will give you better low AND high speed, buy a Losi RX-280 motor for 20$ and gear it 9t or 10t pinion.
Just watch the temperature as this motor runs hot.
(the only thing you gotta do is sand the tip of the shaft very slightly and then grind a flat spot for your pinion set screw)

Also, be aware the Titan 380 won't accept a "normal" pinion as it has a 2.3mm shaft unlike the mini motors (2mm) and bigger 540-550 can motor (1/8" i think?)

Thanks daver, I'm going to go with the 280, and I think a lipo with a higher mah as soon as I go get some connectors.

Re: Maxstone 16 motor question

I bit the bullet and bought a couple of the extreme380x motors and they are faster than stock. The stock pinion fits just fine and it comes with the spacer. My MRC is a scaler and its heavy so more power was needed. I am really happy with it so far.

Re: Maxstone 16 motor question

yeah those helicopter motors looks like a good choice too, although a bit bigger than stock.
i was not sure they would bolt right up to the stock motor plate though, but thanks for clearing that up!

Re: Maxstone 16 motor question

The extreme380x motor is the exact same size as the stock motor. You need the included spacer so you can mount the pinion, I will add a pic tonite.

Really ?? I was in the impression that this 380-can motor is bigger than the stock 270-can ? At least my Titan 380 is...
If not then why do they call them 380X if they are a 270 motor ?
(genuinely interested in this 'cause i thought they were indeed bigger! )

Re: Maxstone 16 motor question

Here you can see the size of the motor fresh out of the package. "thumbsup" You can see the losi motor has a longer shaft.
