Default MRC Motor Plate

Well, the stock motor plate isn't quite adjustable enough to let me run a 66T spur and 11T pinion on my novak 380. So, I drew up my own. Since I was able to get AutoCAD for free(student version), I figured I'd put it to use. Now I just need to figure out what it will be made of and where to get it machined.

This is what I came up with:

I do need to tweak the size of the hole for the motor shaft a little. But otherwise this is pretty much ready to go. Would anyone be willing to help me with getting this machined?

Got my motor plates today thanks to CW Crawlers. Still have to drill three mounting holes. But other than that it's ready to go. So happy. My first part that I designed and had machined.

Stock on the left, Ti in center, and CF on the right:

Yup. Now I just need to figure out what drill bit would be best for drilling the ti and cf. I really don't want to buy two bits but I will if I have to.

Harbor freight bits! Lol.. Drill the CF first, then the ti.. Hmm, maybe the other way around first.. Lol

I was thinking ti first then sandwich the cf between the ti and stock motor plate to make sure it doesn't delaminate and gives a nice hole.

Slight set back. I have the cutting fluid and the drill bits. Now I'm just waiting on the spotting bit.

Yup. I could have taken a better picture though. Just doesn't do them justice.

Will this motor plate fit a traxxas 380 motor and will you make them available to the masses?

Hope you're not talking about the Mini VXL motors, which are really close to the length of a 540 and even larger than a standard 380 in diameter. Those motors will make scrap heaps from these transmissions! Even with an HR billet idler.

I honestly have no idea. I made it so I could fit my Novak 380 on it with a 66T spur and 11T pinion. If it's the same size as the stock MRC motor or the novak 380 it should work since it's based off of the stock motor plate. The only issue that might come up is where the mounting holes are. I'm waiting on some other things so I can get it completely done and make sure it will work. These are basically prototypes to test the idea and to get my MRC up and running again.

As for producing them, it's just a one off for now. Although, I would like to have a vendor star and be able to sell them. But, I'd have to talk to a couple of people that are already making motor plates for the MRC/Slickrock so I don't piss someone off and also get a vendor star which isn't cheap.

I don't see people getting to mad if you make a simple TI motor mount. I don't think many people are doing that and ultimately there is always 20 people seeming to sell similar stuff

I could also try electroplating the Ti too. All I really need is some distilled water, borax, alligator clips, and a couple of 9v batteries. Or I could just heat it up with a torch. That would definitely set it apart from other peoples products.

Personally doing it electrically is better than heat so you don't end up warping or messing up the parts. You can polish it up nicely if your patient just thoughts! Just get it working first and then think big is all I can say coming from someone who designs and makes his own stuff

Well, the tools I ordered are almost here, finally. I have to clear out a space in my grandpa's old reloading room for the drill press so I can use it. That's my next project as it's packed full of crap since we turned it into a "storage" area. I'm hoping to turn it into my Rc/Mountain bike area.
