I'm not sure what "crazy origin caps" are. You'll have to explain that.

OTHGbronco82 has the right idea.

Ditch the two piece cap that pro shocks currently come with, replace it with a one piece cap that holds a standard Traxxas aluminum pivot ball, for example.

That same shock cap would then work for the Late Model shock shown in post #5 by simply cutting the factory "eye" off the top, and screwing the "Calvin Cap" in its place.

Two sets for me! Maybe three, know a friend that needs a set....

Looks good. Strange this has never been done before. Shocks popping off is nothing new in the MRC world.

Thanks for your hard work.

No problem, the 3D printed test ones are just well... tests but if they work they have no threads so they form the threads as you thread it on...

As an FYI the hole in the middle is 3MM for a screw... this is VERY basic!

I wondered if you could do just what your saying, thread them onto the shocks to cut the threads, no different than a rod end.

If they're somewhat thin, you may split them in the process. Too bulky and they'll be bumping into the chassis, unless spaced out a bit. Fine line there, I suppose.

The real magic is getting a pivot ball in the hole, so you can bolt them to any rig with a 3mm screw, and have them move and articulate smoothly.

Pro shocks will be re-invented with this idea. Might start popping up on a variety of rigs that guys are building.

The Losi Late Model Shocks are still available, super short, and very smooth. Any number of reasons you'd want that on a good variety of lighter vehicles.

Maybe take it a step further and make a 3mm shock rod end that will screw onto the smaller diameter shafts of these shocks.

Then guys could run 3mm top and bottom.

That might really open up the scope of people interested in the product.

First part sounds great!

second part.. Wellll.... Un-basic it up! We need balls in them caps, Calvin!

EDIT: Yes! 3mm rod ends that will thread on the tiny shock shaft! Amazing idea!!!

Thanks to my boss for helping me figure out the stupid caps it is .35MM OD x *censored* pitch sorry guys I am NOT revealing it! That said ill see what I can pull off on the 3D printer tonight for a proto. If I do end up making these odds are they will be in Delrin (or nylon). But as for making the rod end fit in... yeah I got that worked out but that is secret too

As for the 3D printed ones, the stuff I print in is semi-soft like ABS is... so that is a perk. The hole drawn is for a 3MM bolt to fit in for the moment. Not ideal but something is something right!

yeah... purty for now I am not 100% sure what my time frame is on the parts but i will see what I can do on the shop lathe once I figure out the shape of the shock cap inside then I can do the lathe work and get that done. The rest is (relatively) easy the threads is hard since my old Atlas 618 is a bear to setup for threading

I could use a set of them as well. It looks like all my rigs are going to M3 hardware for the suspension, and these could become very useful. Any chance you'd be interested in doing something similar for the lower end (upper end if using them inverted...) of these shocks as well? A combination rod end/spring cup that would fit pivot balls with a 3mm through hole and an M2 hole for the shock shaft would be ideal.

BTW, I got an 8.93mm OD over the threads of the shock body with roughly 0.25mm between threads. Would it be far off to assume Losi created a super fine metric M9x0.25 or M9x0.3 thread pattern for something like shocks? I don't think so, it is Losi we're talking about.

Remember also, male threads are based on their ability to pass through a given hole size, not their actual OD. 8.93mm would pass through a 9mm hole with .07mm clearance. Just ideas...
