The diff gear and spool looks like the one in the Exceed 1/16 crawler, so perhaps it is a clone of that crawler?

@ Dravpnir - dang, I think you're right. Disappointing. No wonder Horizon can sell the Temper so cheap.

@Spectre Why so dissapointed? The Temper is (other than the body and anodizing colors) identical to the exceed maxstone or redcat everest-16. I have a rock bouncer/foff rig running a brushless motor on 4s and i have yet to have a problem with the redcat axles and trans. I drive with zero mechanical sympathy btw. Just don't understand the hate on.

@F150 - sorry, I do not know anything about exceed/redcat and just automatically assumed it wasn't worth anything just because it's so cheap. Thought somehow Horizon decided to repackage relabel the LMRC at a $100 cheaper price point. Glad to hear that it's actually a decent crawler. Thanks for chiming in and setting me straight. |

seeing a picture in the vid with the diff exposed... the housing looks like a mrc o.O same odd hallow ball for the upper 3 link and shock and link mounts look identical to the losi, but the biggest difference I see is bearings integrated into the housing where the losi is attached by the c-hubs. I don't know the exceed/redcat stuff so maybe someone could do some comparison pictures? |

The price is really good, and with one good review, it may be worth trying.

My daughter has been beating on her Maxstone 16 (this new rig and the Everest are clones of it) for almost 3 years now with the only failures being one stock Exceed TX and servo. They're damned tough little rigs, but like most, they do have a few downfalls. That said, there is a reason some of us are slowly migrating over to the Exceed ring and pinions in our comp rigs on DravTech spools. Though designed a little silly (the axle mounted bumpers for starters...), parts of them are designed as well as, if not better than, a Losi. Pick one up, give it a good lookin through, and make the decision on your own. You may just find yourself impressed with what you get for your hard earned dough.

Looks like a mod or someone may need to add a section for this new crawler, so it has it's own.

If you search maxstone 16, there is a 39 page thread on the exceed maxstone 16/ hsp kulak/ redcat everest - 16/ ECX Temper. It is a decent crawler for the money out of the box but, like anything, it has its flaws. The axles and trans are great parts for a custom build and can be close to bullet proof for cheap, even with big power. I am running redcat axles and trans in a mini foff rig with 3200kv brushless on 4s and even with cut 1.9s its a damn tough rig.

If a mod is going to add a new section they need to lump this rig, the Everest, and the Exceed all together. Really though, now that Horizon has picked up the basic model for their lineup, they're all at least cousins by now. I say leave this section alone, and just drop "Losi" from the title and make it a general mini section. Scale builds, comp builds, whatever. As long as it's a mini, this is where it belongs.

that's the exact same frame used on the Redcat Everest16 less the color. The Exceed Maxstone16 is of the same crop just has a different style frame. Probably a chinese copy of the mrc/losi stuff. I wished I'd have seen this prior to purchasing an Everest16 I could have gotten the Temper at cost thru Horizon. and it's the same look/design as the Redcat. ~ shucks... oh well ~ tho that blue frame/links are hideous IMO But hey... I didn't like the Maxstone's yellow/green frame either ~ bright is just not appealing for me ~ ------------- I agree... there needs to be a general folder or combined folder that allows discussion of all mini's. jm $.02 Last edited by TacoCrawler; 09-07-2015 at 12:20 AM. |

So before I found this thread I was down at my hobby shop and my son honed in on this truck. We have lots of scx10s but no crawlers. So instead of picking up the radio I really want I bought this truck for his birthday. The one we drove around the shop was fun. TIRES are really hard! My son already has plans to take the shell off his mini revo and put it on this truck.

Picked one of these up and just couldn't leave it alone. Swapped out the wheels and tires for RC4wd 1.55 beadlocks and Mud Thrashers. Stuck on some 1/2" x 1/2"inch L-Channels, Axial Side Body mount for top body mounts and a Chevy Body that wasn't fitting the chassis I got it for. Had to trim the body for tire clearance but that's okay. I'm not going for scale, Just for fun.. Classic 2-tone colors. Bright Red and white with Spaz Stix Chrome paint for grill and bumpers. Detail painting and decals still need to apply. Took the axle bumpers off and trimmed off the mounts. Last edited by Zukiiholic; 12-16-2017 at 07:10 PM. |

@Zukiiholic could you tell me where I can find this body? I've looked everywhere and all I can find is the 1/10 scale of it. Or is that in fact the 1/10 body itself? Also, I like your rail idea. I might do something similar and add in "shock towers" so I could relocate the shocks to it. I think it would look sick. BTW, do you think you could take a pic with the wheels off and from either the front or back? Im just curious where the axles sit in relation to the width of the body. Thanks! Hi all, I'm obviously new here and just wanted to share a little bit of my Temper with you. I'm at work right now so I will just post a couple of pics for now. Just a quick list of my mods. Tire insert delete 50's panel truck body Tossed the bumpers and made my own skid plate replacements 4 wheel steering mod upgrade to 4 link suspension and lower link triangulation Made new tranny skid plate to act as nut for lower link ball studs. Lowered height and shortened wheelbase by about 3-4mm battery relocate just below the RX/ECS where the upper shock strut used to be. Struts are gone because my shocks are mounted higher and back a little from stock onto the frame. I have ZERO torque steer. It doesn't even twist up when trying to turn on high grip carpet. Didn't loose any articulation. In fact I probably gained a little. With the delete of the upper Y, the drive shaft can't impact there or the shock. The shocks are now the limit. Tires no longer touch the lower links. With 4 wheels steer you get this due to the power flex in the hubs (rear). Anyway, here's a couple of pics. Sorry, this last pic is a little older. Taken right before the suspension mod. Last edited by r8derhed5150; 11-13-2015 at 11:23 PM. Reason: adding pics |
