Well, it has been a month since I loaned you a new MRC PRO gear box for your crawler. I was thinking you might be back from Montana by now and I am ready to start my MRC build. I would really like to hear from you so we can get it back to me. (Hope this isn't going to be the one time in 30 years in RC that I get taken). Last edited by CODYBOY; 10-19-2015 at 11:04 AM. |

The roadrunner, after a ten year build I just slowly lost interest. No, my 1-1 build days are over, the fun and funds just aren't there anymore. Guess I'm getting old. Last edited by CODYBOY; 10-20-2015 at 03:15 PM. | |

Make sure to glue the outdrives into place with either Loctite 648 or JB-Weld if buying those HR (^) gears. It doesn't take but a few packs to waller the slots for the outdrives out, and then they fail completely shortly after that.

Great idea 89redranger, would be nice if the HR gears were steel instead of aluminum.

Steel would be awesome. Even the aluminum set aren't great. I've had the best luck using the aluminum idler/step gear, the stock brass top shaft gear, and the plastic bottom gear with the steel lockers. The problem with aluminum as gear teeth is that over time it wears and gets beat to death, and still results in a failure. Using the aluminum on the brass and plastic seems to be not only smoother, but longer wearing over time. Besides, the plastic bottom gear is cheap to replace and functions well as a fuse of sorts in the drivetrain.

^^^^ 100% agreement! ^^^^ I set up All of MRC tranny's this way. I can't think of one failure! The mini mantis is 3yrs, or so, old and still going strong! (And that tranny came out of the one before it). Lol.. |

Well, thank you everyone for the advice, I wish I'd checked this sooner! @89redranger, you hit the nail on the head! (You must have already had the issue) the aluminum gears chewed apart in there, bc I didn't glue the shafts in. They wallered out and resulted in yet another fail. 5th time fail. I got tired of the losi trans, and I had a 1/16 traxxas transmission that I've dreamed of putting into my Mrc pro because I've had an 540 sized castle sidewinder brushless setup behind it, and knew it was a bulletproof trans. But I would have to cut out my pretty carbon fiber side plates to make it fit... after this last failure, and almost throwing the truck at the wall, I decided to tear it apart, and figure out how to do this merv tranny once and for all. Well, a trip to ace hardware for brass and 13hrs later.... Have a few pics I took in process of the build...... I didn't make any plans, just bent the rails as I thought they should be and continued to solder pieces and dremel holes. Here's the first time I put the axles under it.... Then after a trip downstairs to my rc junkyard of parts for screws, I found a traxxas waterproof rx box, so that had to happen. After mounting up the trans, I re used the belly plate from mrc pro and mounted it under the skid plate. Hooked up the lower links, and cut my CF side plates up to make brackets for upper links... Once that was done, it all came together quickly... But wait... more problems. The truck was real chattery when going forward, and no reverse. One peek told all though, due the angle of the mip drivelines the universals were binding up on me, so I made an adapter plate for each shock hoop to make it taller. Problem solved. Next step is to tear it all apart and clean it so I can get some paint or plastidip on it...will post more pics of it after completely done, but It was out on its first drive, and after a 2200mah lipo, ran great, and i don't think I need to tweak anything, or adjust...
