DravTech Sudu Zero by Force5

OK this is my first build thread, or should I call it a built thread.
The rig was finished just before worlds. with only 4 or 5 packs thru it. I was very impressed with a Fifth place finish at worlds.
I will try to get as much info in the thread and as quick as possible. Work has been impossible since returning from Logandale.

Here's the finished product.

So once I convinced Tobias to let go of one of his babies I started building components. First up was the shocks. I cut down the shafts to 35mm and re-threaded them.
The shock bodies were reduced by 10mm

Assembled using the Axial machined pistons and the lightest oil I had 20wt. RCBros spring retainer with pink Losi Mini-T front springs.

So I have to run now but I'll try and get a second post tonight "thumbsup"

It's link time.
Uppers are 1/8" titanium.

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4163-59199.jpg

The lowers are 3/16 Aluminum 6061 .049 wall tube. Camera angle makes it look like different lengths. Fronts are just straight.

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4163-59202.jpg

My eye to eye link measurements are as follows:
Front upper 62 mm
Front lower 78.5 mm
Rear upper 68.5mm
Rear lower 85.5mm

Re: DravTech Sudu Zero by Force5

I received the Zero chassis and started acquiring the parts needed for the build and here's the list in the picture.

1.9 CI foams, soft & medium.
MRC diff gears and transmission.
Axial Wraith Universals and rear shafts.
MIP drive shafts.
Weights for the knuckles.
Axial thin hexes.
SLW .225 hubs
Shocks
Esc, Servo, Motor

I think I got off easy here. I had to purchase the foam, drive shafts and hubs.

"thumbsup"The axle shafts were the next item on the list. First I disassembled them and clearance them so there would be no binding. Reassembled and a quick shot of paint and ready for sizing.

OK here it is DISCLAIMER !!! Do your own measurements !!!!
If you use my measurements it's at your own risk!!

Here is what I came up with, please look at the picture for my reference points for front and rear shafts.
Front long 53mm, short 28.5mm
Rear long 82mm, short 58mm

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4163-59240.jpg

I couldn't find my build notes to give you my measurements for the flats on the end of the shafts. I used a file and a vice to make them.

More later

Re: DravTech Sudu Zero by Force5

OK where was I , oh yeah the axles cut.
Next I assembled the front and rear axles.
Straight forward assembly, I need to shim the stock locker to get the correct ring and pinion pattern.

Once that was done I put it all together. "thumbsup"

Here's both ends and a side view.

It should be noted that the shimming is required because these axles were actually designed to be used with both Losi and Exceed ring and pinion setups, as well as the varied OD/UD options some are running. Tobias and I came to the conclusion that it would be easier to shim than run out of room.

BTW, the rig looks killer! Keep the details coming.

Re: DravTech Sudu Zero by Force5

About time I got back to this....
Time to put some rubber to the rocks!!
Tire building is new to me so I contacted PurpMart for set so 4.25" VooDoo/Ripsaw tires.
The wheel choice was obvious DravTech Cyclones with the printed inner supports.
The assembly was interesting!
<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
first install the outer face, then turn the tire inside out. Now remove the lip on the bead. I used my lexan scissors cut them off.

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4163-59310.jpg
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4163-59311.jpg
Now center the inner section on the bead with the face, and glue it on. Once the CA has cured turn the tire back over the center.
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4163-59309.jpg
Install your foams then glue the inside bead to the center section.
You end up with this!
