Moving the shocks more vertical with the extensions, how much better has the TT been? In shock form it's ridiculous.
Thanks for the thread. Pretty cool.

Thanks in advance.

I purchased the 2mm aluminum in a little sheet, 6"x9" maybe from my local hobby shop. Cut it out with a bandsaw but a dremel would work too.

The TT is mostly gone with this setup. I'm running a semi droop suspension. I put ball point pen springs inside the shocks under the pistons. This helps to keep the truck upright if it flexes over center.

So this is the stock set-up for the ECX Temper. It has a really bad torque twist. I've been talking with my rock crawler builder friend about how to hopefully fix it. So if you look at the shock mounts they are under the frame way too much. He suggested getting the shocks stood up since that's the way they build them.

So with his help on the plasma table and another friends welding skills, we came up with this. The shocks are stood up. This will lessen the amount of flex. In this case that's good. The ECX has way too much flex which lets it tip over easily.

Now it sits lower and has more dampening on the shocks. It is stiffer for sure.
The quick test for torque twist showed that this helps. I have not crawled on rocks yet, but I'm guessing it will be better.

No it's not polished. What's the point? It will soon be dirty anyways.

Please keep us posted on your findings once you take it out for a good crawl

Okay. I just crawled my rock coarse at home. I'll tell you what, this mod is a must do. This ECX is crawling the same stuff as my Wraith. Not all the obstacles, but most. The difficult climbs were a no go but they are technical for the Wraith. I found no torque twist. None. One climb is on a slick face where it sends you left and you need to turn right. The stock set-up would lift the right wheel in the air and flip over before you even got to the climb. Now it makes the face and will allow wheel spin to manipulate the line.
Then I have a tight, short canyon trail that's got a split at the end that is about 16" tall. The rocks dwarf the ECX and it makes it.

I cannot believe the difference. You can actually use it now like a 1/10, sort of. The Temper should be built like this stock. It's great fun now.

For what it's worth the ECX is a rebadged HSP Kulak crawler. The Redcat E16 is also the same unit.

I'm surprise it made it too. Those rocks are way bigger than the buggy. I just picked up some HH Rover 1.9 tires. They are the same diameter as the stockers. I need to get some wheels ASAP. But they are super soft and super sticky. They should help with grabbing rocks instead of spinning on them.
I'm hell bound to make this rig work right. I'm on the right track so far. Need grip and weight. More weight. I don't want wheel weights. I want to keep weight unsprung too. Any ideas?
Plus this rig needs some go juice. I plan to get a peppier motor. The HS guys were like, "you can't do anything to help with more speed". I bet they're wrong.
Is the 2s 7.4v LiPo a no go? I've read that others have had success with them with no mods. I would install a horn or cut off if it works.

Mine crawls great with stock suspension (thinner oil), extra weight, flipped electrics tray, trimmed/lowered body. Drives just as good as my buddies Losi MRC. I run 2s lipo and a 370 motor with a dynamite 60a controller. Its overkill and speed doubled, but I like having the extra power. I ran it on 2s lipo when it was stock but it didn't really benefit from it.

With the 2s, did you get longer run times? That' really what I'm looking for.

Ill post some pics of my sons tonight when I get home. We went a bit crazy with it. 4ws, mamba micro x with 2s battery, wheel wideners, 1.9's, all the horizon accessories, believe it or not running the motor backwards helped with torque twist as well as just putting zap straps on the shocks on one side to increase the preload. The thing flies now and crawls very well compared to my scx10. Upgraded radio and transmitter, hitec servos on both ends.

What do you guys mean by "Running the motor backwards" I've looked at mine and can't figure out how you would do that without flipping the transmission around too. Maybe I'm over thinking this.

Thats it. literally un screw the skid from the chassis (trans and motor still attached) and replace turned 180. Will also need to swap the motor wires around.

I just got this truck and sorry, I'm a total newb, but why would flipping the motor do anything? The truck seems symetrical..

Which ones mate? There are a few different wheels in this thread. I've seen stock ecx wheels and tyres. The white wheels are rc4wd wagon wheels and rc4wd tyres. Also just above are axial 8 hole bead locks with tsl super swampers.

On another note I picked up one of these basically brand new for $50 recently. Thinking it will probably get stripped for parts though lol.
