Default ECX Temper scale test and tune

My awesome son bought myself and his sister each one of these great trucks. Since it's been unseasonably warm for Ohio, Merry early Christmas!
I'm experimenting on a somewhat more scale approach. In trial and error mode right now but have it close.

Made frame extensions to get the shocks more upright to help with TT.

It only lost a very little amount of articulation. It might still be too much once full size body is on.

You can see I cut original battery/rx tray in two pieces to retain the shock mounts. Still deciding on rx and battery placement.

Preliminary tests around the house shows I'm close with this setup. I think the shocks need thinner oil and I need to lower them just a bit more. Hopefully tonight.

My daughter really likes old Fords and my LHS has this one. I matched the wheelbase up and it's real close. I'll make longer rear links if need be to get it perfect.

I'm testing on my truck and once I'm happy I'll duplicate on hers.

Picked up the 66' F100 body for my daughters tonight. Need to extend the rear links about 18mm to make the wheelbase correct. Tomorrows project.

Looks good! Got any measurements for the frame extensions? Looks like something I'd like to do to mine.

rehnjames, once I get it rolling I am taking it apart to paint the chassis flat black. I will get all the measurements of everything I did and post them with pics.

Default ECX Temper scale test and tune

Got the rear axle extensions done and wheelbase correct to body. I added 20mm to wheelbase. Used stock TLT1 chassis braces for the extensions.

For now I extended the three link. But I might make new tubes and four link it. I think this longer single post might be a weak link, time will tell.

Have the body mounted securely. So far no rubbing and plenty of flex.

Daughter says she wants the body to look it's age. This will be a first for me, weathering a lexan body. Done lots of searching and pretty sure I can pull it off.
Stay tuned!

Have the chassis primered and painted satin black.

Used the sanding drum on a dremel for the rust holes.

Put two coats of the closest rust color I could find, inside and outside.

Now two coats of gunmetal on outside.

Let that dry until tomorrow. Then tape off for the pink she wants on.
Then I will detail the rust holes and replicate some patina.

Added some scale accessories.

Threw a quick paint job on my 72 K10 for now. Later I'm going to weather mine I think.

And now for a full interior. The Walking Dead dudes look about perfect for these.
In mock up stage. Waiting for some thicker styrene for floor.
