Austin's Mini Wedge LP2.0 or HBZ Alien Build/assembly

The mini crawlers look like a lot of fun. Especially crawling in the backyard where the rock are not huge.

I have the axles close to completion. Still need to build the tie rod and drag link and install the servo. Thanks goes out to dravtech for making the 3d parts available. Hope the BWD chassis arrives soon to start building the links...

Why did you rake out the reinforcement rib on the axle?
I find them so fragile that I keep mine...

Looking forward for the rest of the build!

Experimental, I am planning on builing some reinforcements for the front and rear axles.

Here is some aluminum 1/4 inch rod machined into rear axle inter tubes weak part to the strong part of axle. I think I will build brass ones for the front. The housing feels stronger now.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b9369eaa34.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...dfcb8af059.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c7a8548420.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4d921958ad.jpg

I decided to make another pair of tubes for the front axle out of aluminum tonight. Also shortened a set of scx-10 shocks. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b37eba6b73.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a5e061c62a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...895eebecdd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b86247addd.jpg

You’re killing it on that micro lathe. Willing to share any details on it?

Enjoying the (re)build on the mini axles. I’ve got a set I’m don’t run hardly any from fear of breaking something and ZERO parts availability.

Thank you, but I can only do basic operations with it right now. I need to get more tooling for the taig. They sell a 5c headstock and a lot of nice cutting tools. Also a milling vice for small jobs. The sherline and unimat micro lathe are nice too for small work.

Two steps forward two steps back. I had to modify the axial universals for smooth steering. Wondering if the standard VP steering arms work well on the mini's?

...And finished the scx-10 shocks... Also ordered a suduzero chassis.

Some more progress on MRC build. I recieved a HBZ alien chassis from YSS crawlers. The chassis plates needed to be modified for traxxas rod end. The skid also need some work. Now I am ready for link measurements, but the rear shocks need to be moved to the outside of the chassis unfortunately. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3b144e17f3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8b723f075e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...023b9e35ca.jpg

You should have more articulation with the shocks onboard as you have them mounted.

I especially like how you used the angle iron to set the wheelbase to pull measurements for links. I’ll be using that for myself one day.

Yes, I believe it is worth the extra work to run the rear shock on the inside. The rear lower links are now done. I may need to build a skid for more lower link triangulation.

Re: Austin's Mini Wedge LP2.0 or HBZ Alien Build/assembly

I made some more progress on my MRC alien. It is a little challenging to setup the upper links on these chassis, but I think I figured something out. A quick jig for cutting the carbon fiber rod and modified traxxas rod ends with 3mm spacers. The first photo is without spacers and the second one is with the spacers.

The link set for my MRC alien is now complete. I am unsure about the rear upper link mount.

The servo is a Savox SV-1254 MG with about 200 oz-in of torque.

Here is the steering set up finished.
