Those steel rod ends came in and man are they beautiful! I’ll post a picture once I get them installed. But while I’m waiting to source some M4 bolts, I decided to pull the trigger on this beauty today!

UDR? COOL!!! Just so you know, Vitavon has a machined rear axle (as well as other items) for it.

I've finally received enough of the upgrade parts, with a few more being delivered within (approx) the next week, that I can finally disassemble my BR, and start the upgrades. Hopefully, for the 'finale', I'll have a nice "surprise".

Easiest dual front shock set up!!!
Finally got the front 100 mm king shocks in. Just a mock up, will clean it up a little bit with some Panhead bolts on the bottom. But all in all, it is super strong and looks fairly good. I wasn’t going to do it this way but then realize that’s how the slash has its front shocks so I figured why not! Used 3 mm conical spacers on the bottom and one on top with a stainless steel spacer. I will post the exact measurements when I finish. Was worried about it hitting, but I don’t drive like a madman!

Finally installed. About 12mm of spacers on the top and about 7mm on the bottom. I think they were 35 mm bolts on top and about 20 mm for the lower A Arm.

Have to drop it from about 5 feet in the air now to get it to bottom out!

Dear Baja Rey friends,

I'm new here and I just bought a Baja Rey BND. I tested it on pavement with 3S and I noticed that I likes to steer left when accelerating. The harder I accelerate, the more it likes to go left. Is that a kind of torque steering effect caused by the solid rear axle driveline? Did anyone notice that as well?
When I look at the front wheels it seems that they also slighty steer left. Very weird.

Cheers, Ben

Yes. I noticed the same thing, when throttle was above 25-30/% (estimated). In my case, I was only on 2S. Initially, I "countered" it by trimming the steering to the right. At slower speeds, this caused the BR to go sightly right, IF I didn't hold the wheel slightly to the left...but, at speed, without touching the wheel, it went perfectly straight. While it is possible this was caused by the torque, it could have also been caused by the weak stock servo.

However, I've since replaced all electronics - higher quality, and more powerful, Futaba servo; better ESC (Castle Mamba X); and, much better, lower kV motor, with more torque (Tekin ROC412 HD 3100kV). I also replaced a number of plastic parts with machined aluminum parts, which should also help counter some of that torque twist & steer. Since completing the rebuild, I've only gotten to do some minor testing, and only on 2S (the primary reason for going with a lower kV motor is because, moving forward, I'll be exclusively running 3S in the BR), but I can confirm that the "steering problem" appears to have been eliminated. I brought it with me to Vegas, along with some new 3S packs, and plan to give it a more thorough testing before I return to the SF Bay Area. I should know within the next few days whether, or not, the steering "problem" is truly resolved.

I actually ordered that axle! Along with JEC SS trailing arms & upper links, reef’s 500 HD raw servo, Front stainless steel splined driveshaft, aluminum steering linkage, front upper and lower a arms and a few other goodies.

That's what I call some "massive metal". Sure it's gonna seriously beef-up the UDR's rear end.

Getting back to the BR, my step-dad & I took our trucks (he's got a 2WD Slash) out to a dry lakebed south-east of Las Vegas, and south of the Hoover Dam, several days ago. Work all the upgrades, and added weight (original weight of a lil over 6lbs, current weight slightly more than 8lbs) of the machined aluminum parts, she can break 43mph on 3S. Mind you, that's with a lower kV motor (Tekin ROC412 HD 3100kV).

Nice! Can’t wait to meet up brother…

Idea… Maybe we should try to get a Baja Rey race weekend (Or annual) going (Northern Ca or Las Vegas desert.). Stock (2s lipo) and unlimited classes (3s, “Run what’ you Brung”) to start?

Sounds like a good idea, if there's enough people to join in. I like the idea of both 2S & 3S 'classes'. As for the meeting up, I'm definitely still up for that...but, after I get back from Vegas (again). This time, instead of bringing the Capra work me, I brought a couple of my boats...and, of course, the Baja Rey. Still have some ESC adjustments to make, plus some other upgrades to finish installing.

I love it! One word of caution though… I’ve noticed the spare tire on these can be a bit of a problem. The second time I flipped it it broke the cage that is attached to the fuel cell & tire. A $12 part, but either reinforce it like I did or carry a spare. Looks awesome again! Love the colors. Maybe paint the brake calipers orange to match?

Thanks man I appreciate it!! Thanks for the heads up with the spare tire issue. I have ran through probably 12 packs and no issues, fingers crossed. Have you had any problems with the stock wheels cracking?

Not the wheels, but the tires definitely went South with body rub after five or six packs (In the front) (I’m also thinking about trimming the rear or running sans fenders.) (I noticed yours look modified so let us know with any of those issues) Hence the Modified body and BF goodrich. They also don’t balloon “as much” regardless of the battery power.

Calicrawler I’m running a spacer on the rear so the body has a wider stance I like the way it looks. I broke all 4 of my stock wheels on the 3rd pack, I’m running the plastic methods that the yeti tt run with the 225 vanquish hubs. This combo has worked perfect. When I was running the factory tires with the factory wheels the tires ballooned like crazy and rubbed the body pretty bad. When I got the method wheels I plugged the holes in the wheels, took gorilla duck tape and did one layer around the inside of the tire. After I got the tires glued back on I drilled 3 small holes on the tire for venting. The stock tires literally don’t ballon at all even on 3S.

Edjo69, for the mudflaps I used the material for lining a bath tub or shower before it’s built. I got the material at Home Depot they have it in big rolls, and I asked an employee if they could cut me a small 12x12inch piece and they didn’t have a problem doing that. I told them it was for an RC project and I got a weird look lol. I loosened all the back screws on the chassis to fit a small amount under the chassis and then tightened the screws. So far this material has held up through 8 or so packs and hasn’t fell apart. Having the mudflaps has help with rocks hitting the aluminum trailing arms and the SSD third member. I know a guy here in Colorado Springs that runs a trophy truck in the Baja 1000 and he gave me the idea. I’m doing my best to try and get a scale look out of the truck.
