Also - does anyone have any good ideas / recommendations on the little side wing mirrors the TT's run? Scoured Shapeways and could not find anything.

PM sent. Let me see if I can find you some mirrors... Edit: These might work, might be a bit big since they are showing them on a UDR. https://www.amazon.com/Homyl-Rearvie...as+UDR+mirrors Another that will be the right size but is going to be hard to get. Follow the link in the comments and it takes you to a European site that sells them. I don't think they are cheap though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjlT8BDYuDg Last edited by JDM74; 01-01-2019 at 09:52 AM. | |

Working on some exhaust port ideas / details. Used some small pipe I had on hand and fabbed up a little backing plate that will bolt on where the body mount holes are. (Body mount bolt will pass through the cab, the backing plate and then in to the threaded lug on the cage. I'd still need to detail these up, weather them and make them look like they've been heat cycled. Should be a helluva lot better than decals tho! Just using old cab and fenders to mock up and see where exactly I would want them. |

I did find these on shapeways. Sand scorcher mirrors, but they don't have the little cage work around them. https://www.shapeways.com/product/HS...li=marketplace |

Looking for opinions. I felt like the rear deck lid area I fabbed up needed some more dimension / interest. I was checking out some of the new Brenthel truck builds and they seem to have this sort of set up out back in the fuel filler area. Anyway, I did just a real quick mock up with card stock. If I went this direction it would be aluminum like the rest of the deck lid. I would either do it as a separate piece and bolt it on with flanges hidden on the underside, or, lord help me, fab up a whole new deck lid and integrate it right in with the appropriate bends. Whach'all think??????????????? |

Lower the top horizontal plate down a bit and mount the floor jack on that and it would match their stuff pretty good.

Here’s a decent shot at the back. It’s fairly tall. I’d love to figure out what the extra space is being utilized for? If you zoom in you can see some zuess fasteners and it’s almost like an access door, which i could certainly mimic.

Here’s a more straight on shot from Brenthel’s website. Unfortunately, their image gallery scrolls and you can’t really enlarge.

Spent some time grinding and smoothing out welds last night. It's slow going but I think it will really pay off in the finished look. I'll still need to get in to some of the tighter areas with jewelers files to really clean it up as well. Lastly I'll smooth out any ridges from filing with some fine grit sandpaper or scotchbrite pads, then it's going to get finished with SteelIt Coatings like many of the 1:1's do. |

Yeah, that sits a good bit lower than the one on the Brenthel truck I looked at. I'd love to know exactly what its function is. I Googled and searched and could not find anything. Almost looks like some sort of auxiliary air handler. I did resort to sending the question in to Brenthel's "contact us" tab on their website. We'll see if they answer I guess.

Got the inner panel skins made up with 1/16" ABS. Stuff is a little bit of a pain to work with, but I liked the smooth, shiny black finish. The roof will remain the aluminum that I fabbed up with the valence for the KC pod lights. Also still working on grinding and smoothing welds out. Just about done and then I'll go back in with the jeweler's files to get the small crevices. Lastly it will be some fine grit sandpaper and scotch-brite pads over the whole cage to really smooth things out prior to finish. I'm re-thinking my design on the aluminum rear deck-lid area as well. (Per the discussion about the Brenthel rigs earlier in the thread). I had a lot of time in to making templates, re-making templates, test fitting, making the "finished piece", fine tuning, etc. But, the more I looked at it I just wasn't feeling it. Too much flat surface area I think. Back to the drawing board I guess. |

Quick shot mounted up. I plan on doing some skins with stainless mesh inserts up front. See 4th pic. I doubt I'll be able to integrate the Brenthel logo, but this is the look I'm going for. I'd also like to make one of the airbox / filters to sit on top just in front of the windshield. My time here on the forums tells me to do that out of styrene, but I've never worked with it. Anyone familiar enough with making stuff with it to tell me what kind of thickness I'd want to use for something like that? See 5th pic. |

That airbox is a prime candidate for a 3D print.

Speaking of airboxes, I was kicking around ideas and came up with this. I gotta say, I kinda like it! Who needs 3D printing and styrene when you have spray-paint caps! Kinda has the last pic vibe goin. Last edited by mewalsh100; 01-03-2019 at 05:07 PM. |

I've been inspired to work on my Baja Rey by all the cool stuff mewalsh100 has been doing. So in case anybody was wondering, Proline Raptor body on Baja Rey chassis with modified wheelbase. It's not 100% perfect but I think it will be close enough to not trigger my OCD. Untitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr Untitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr I shortened the wheelbase using Yeti trailing arms for the lowers and SCX10.1 steering tie rods for the uppers. I still need to shorten the drive shaft and design/3D print a front mounting system for the body. The sides of the bed are mounted just below the tail lights and the roof is secured using the stock rear Baja Rey roof mounts. I'm going to try to source some permanent upper links now since I have the length figured out. Last edited by JDM74; 01-05-2019 at 04:42 PM. |
