Default Wheel/Tire question

Hey guys,

I was thinking of running Proline Hyrax ties with the SSD 2.2 Rock Racer Beadlocks (*2.2" Rock Racer Beadlock Wheels (Silver)). I was also going to use the Proline dual stage closed cell foam inserts (https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXGJFW&P=ML
I noticed on SSD's webiste that it states "These wheels are not compatible with Proline 2.2 tires." I got the idea of running this combo from this video from The RCNetwork: https://youtu.be/9eltoMcj9fM

I see the video is from 2017. Has something changed? Should I look for another set of beadlocks to run with the Hyrax tires?

I use the Hyrax 2.2s myself, but using knock off beadlocks. I also use the duel stage foam. The tires are really good. The foams are way better than stock, but I feel like they might be a little too dense for good crawling. If you’re just bashing though so far they’re great for that.

No crawling for me. I am just looking for a tire with stiffer side wall than the stock tires.

Oh yea then those tire and foam combos are what you want. I couldn’t believe the improvement over stock.

I emailed SSD and asked if the beadlocks would work with those tires. I am hoping they will because I like the way they look and I like the plastic ring.

I think on the video he says he uses a proline ring? I may be wrong about that. After tires and foams the price of the wheels made me cringe haha, but most people I’ve read have no issues with the cheap INJORA brands or whatever they are on eBay.

Yep as OpisOpus has mentioned it’s the proline inner ring that’s needed for a good mate for these wheels but you can just file the existing ones down if you plan to stay with the hyrax tires but it is tedious work and you can ruin them by going too far so I’d just get a set of proline inner rings lol

Can someone provide me with a link to beadlocks that are decent, but not a ton of money and that will be a direct fit with the Hyrax Prolines?

Well not cheap but would these work with the Hyrax tires?

Would I need different hexes or wheel nuts?

Idk what hexes those use, but 12mm is what the stock is I believe. As for nuts, I had to use unflanged m5 (I think) lock nuts and 2 washers (socket wouldn’t fit inside center hole all the way). But those were for cheap INJORA eBay wheels. If you do need any nuts or washers I just got mine from Lowe’s for like $2 in the fasteners section in their nut/bolt drawers labeled hobby. Btw those hubs would probably look sick on the rock Rey, but would be a pain in the ass to unscrew all those screws just to get to the wheel nut haha
