The RR was also my first Lipo/Brushless experience. Prior to that was running Nimh and brushed 18 years ago. Brushless had just come out and was crazy expensive back then. Can’t believe what they’ve done to RC since then. I also went with the castle setup in mine, but with one of their 1/8th scale motors and monster mamba x. You made a good choice.
I only had the RR for a month before deciding to build my crawler so I understand haha. Was originally going to make another u4 truck from the scx10ii raw builders kit, but decided to just do a crawler. It’s nice to go slow and not break as many parts crawling, but always find myself wishing it was faster lol. Keep us posted if you do anymore to it.

I'm starting to wonder what 3s would be like...

I’ve often wondered the same, but I’ve read too many people saying it was too much and breaks stuff easy. Guess it has a lot to do with whatever motor you’re running

I'm running the castle 2850kv sensored brushless motor. It's got plenty of power, super smooth and awesome braking... I just would like to see it with just a little more zip.

One day I might try it haha. I have a big property and I can’t even run it full speed on 2S for more than a couple seconds at a time.
I also have a really high torque setup. Worry about stripping hexes and stuff

I've run nothing but 3s in my Baja Rey since I've had it. Stock ESC and motor.

Relevant upgrades include SSD front bulkhead, Exotek diff cups (front and center...I should have ordered 3), and VP rear axle housing (all stock internals). Absolutely no drivetrain issues, yet.

I will be upgrading to a MX and sensored 1415 2400kV after getting an aluminum center case and a 3rd Exotek diff cup installed. Also planning on the lower ratio (and stronger) Rock Rey diff gears before going 4s.

Diff cups are one of the things I didn't do. I did the larger traxxas screw mod, but when it as done I could see where the larger screws stressed the plastic a little bit. It's holding so far...
