Back to the roots | RCO‘s RR Project

Since i gave my Yeti away to a buddy, i was surprised how well this truck do his job and how versatile it is.
Coming from MT bashers and still own a E-Revo and a 3.3 with OS engine, it was time to get a new Rock Racer.
IFS was a must and so i pulled the trigger on a Rock Rey BND.

First Mod was to replace the Shocks with the PL i still had laying around from my Yeti.
These Shocks work damn good and are a nice upgrade to the RR.
I run 25WT/yellow/yellow ind the front and 35WT/ yellow upper/green in the rear.

After a first fun ride out, this maiden run shows up the next candidate to replace: the Motor/ESC.
The RR cogs and sounds like he eats gears for breakfast...

Ordered a Tekin PRO4 HD/3000kv and installed a MambaX and a CC Bec2.0 to power the new servo.
Didn’t drive it, but the drivetrain sounds muuuuuch smoother and no weird clicking.

Also i replaced the stock rims and mounted the stock tires on some chanquish rims.
The inner ring makes the tires a bit firmer, as the foam has „less space“ in the tire.

Made a mounting plate for the ESC/Bec:

Now i have to wait for some Vitavon parts and lucky me, i ordered the Vitavon linkage kit.
Yesterday i installed the Losi linkage kit and this thing @40 bucks is a absolute rip off!!!
Not worth a dollar [emoji2959]

Thanks for watching!

You didn't have to make an ESC mounting plate. Not sure if you knew, but RPM makes a mount/cage for the Mamba X...and, while it's technically designed for the Sl4sh, the spacing of the ESC mounting holes on the Baja/Rock Rey are identical to the holes on the Sl4sh.

It's, quite literally, "plug n play" - two screws hold the button of the cage/plate to the exact same holes used for mounting the original ESC. Then, drop the ESC into place, place the top half of the cage into position, and two more screws hold the top half of the cage to the bottom half. Not that you can see it when running the vehicle, but the Mamba X looks great in the RPM cage.

Thanks, will have look at it. Tons of nice infos, as in your thread...!
But i taped the BEC on the ESC and want to have a solid plate that holds both of them. Just to make sure it stays in place.
And it was fun to build anyway...

To secure the non-flanged nut, i used some NordLock wedge-lockers.

I used M6 as i have them laying around and the fit exactly in the wheelhub.
And the 8mm Hudy nutdriver works with the hubs as well...
