Default New guy southern maine

Hey guys,
New here. I think I joined in 14 and it took me a while to finally get one.

I haven't even seen it yet but I got a veterra ascender K5 coming in the mail. Very excited to play with it and start moding.

I've been crawling 1:1 for years and ready to give this a try.

Oooohhhhhhhhhh!!! Another ascender guy, sweet! Let us know when you get it and if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help. Check out my threads in the ascender section as well as natedog's thread. Tons of information and great guys in there to help.

thanks for the welcomes! I'll read up on those threads for sure.

My 1:1 trail rig is a white 99 XJ:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/EHrqEOCC8VP5WhRn1

Which i would LOVE to duplicate, that way when i break it, i can take out the little one and still play.

Although my neighbor does have a red K5 i might be able to get my hands on so building a full size version on the Ascender is an option too

Either way, I'm looking for a 99 xj body and have found:
Axial: right year, least detail, fender flairs are HUGE and too far up on the fender so if i cut them off it would look goofy. Not good way i know of to make it right.
Proline: Older body style XJ, A little more angular, i could make it work probably
China Hard body: more money, more detail, older body style. They come in while so i'd just need to paint a few things black and be good to go.

anyone have body suggestions or are the brands i haven't found out about yet?

I essentially want a stock 97+ xj shell with no fender flairs or stock fender flairs that i can cut out so i can reproduce my junk. I Just wish they axial body kept the flairs to the line in the fender instead of touching the hood, and i don't know why they put a cowl hood on it.

are these clear bodies mostly polycarbonate? and is the .040 the thickness of that? i've never worked with it that thin before whilst trying to keep it clear but i might dabble

Most mainstream bodies are polycarb. .40 is the thickness as you thought. Be sure to get poly carb paint. I like Duratrax personally, because of the cost to can size ratio.
Proline makes a ton of bodies. Not sure if they make a 97 though.

Took you long enough to move down to a smaller scale, Will. Lol
How have you been?

i ended up with the axial body. Is the right year and besides the oversized fender flairs (which my 1:1 used to have) its right.

Working on trimming it and adjusting the body mounts now.

I did order duratrax paint with it.

Hey Rob, it really did take a while. I still play full scale quite often, building a CJ7 over the winter for the spring. Trying to keep it street legal (4" lift, 33s, reasonable gearing) How are you doing? Long time no see

I've been having some fun with the blazer though, I need to figure out how to post pics better on this site.

thought this was neat, gonna try to buy it since i'm me

so i finished the XJ body and it fits and mounts up right.

cherokee scale actually works out to 1/8 if you compare a real one to the wheelbase of the ascender. Cool thing ascender's tire diameters x 8 =36.1 and look like TSL swampers, and i have 36" TSL swampers on my 1:1

I have a 20 degree RTI ramp and my real jeep gets a better score though (based on wheel base) so i'd like to find a way to increase the travel of the RC.

Are shocks universal? IE can I just get some with more travel and get an assortment of springs to get the right height reasonable while using the additional travel?

Can someone point me to a tutorial for posting pics on this site? I haven't gotten it to work yet and would like to show some of the ascender blazer crawling on a real K5 and some pics of my cherokee body on it.

thanks!
