| Pioneer Valley Hobbies Build Contest (Update 6-14-13) Update 7-22-13, Copy of flyer in most recent post. Prizes, times, etc. Update 7-16-13, See post below Update 6-14-13 I'm posting this up on behalf of Pioneer Valley Hobbies of West Springfield, MA. They are a full line hobby shop and are great people to deal with. I live in Vermont, but have family in that area and consider them my "local" hobby shop. Their main RC guy, Gary is a big fan of crawlers/scalers and has built some pretty cool stuff. They are having a build contest on September 7 (rain date of September 14) and I thought I would try and make people aware of it. I'm posting this up in the various New England forums and will update when I have more information. I'm heading down there this weekend and hopefully Gary has more information for me. If anybody has any questions I'll be happy to try and answer them. As of right now, I don't believe there will be anywhere to actually crawl on but that may change. They are planning on setting something up. Not guaranteed, but likely. You can visit their website at pvhobbies.com for more information about the shop and you can always call them if I can't answer the questions. If you want to mapquest where they are the address is: 54 Myron Street, West Springfield, MA 01089 and their phone number is 413-732-5531 The contest is more of a get together to check out everybody's rigs and share information, etc. with a chance to win some prizes. Rigs will be scored on a 1-5, 1-10 scale (depending on the catagory) by each entrant. This way it's based more on creativity with what you used as opposed to how much you spent. The more people we can get together, the better. I think Gary said something about trying to have some food and drink available for people too. He said today there will be pizza. It should be a fun time and make for good networking . Last years rules are below and may change a little bit. They are not set in stone so if your rig is a touch over the specs you'll still be allowed to participate. I'll update the rules and add a prize list when I get updated info. Rules will be the same as last years. Gary is working on getting some sponsors so they can give out more prizes. I'll post up the flyer/prizes when he emails it to me. Its a fun time!! I won last years with my version of a FC military jeep build: They are a great group of guys to deal with and a fun place to go for most any hobby. The bigger turn out the better as last year they wanted to break it into 1.9/2.2 and scale/truggy but couldnt because there wasnt enough participants. IDK if this year would be the same but last year everyone got a $10 gift certificate for the $10 entrance fee so its free!!! You cant beat that at all. Last I talked with him he was talking about a "course" in the front of the building with possible burgers/dogs. Either way get your butts down there!!!! Its a fun time!! This build contest is just that - A BUILD CONTEST. Its great if you have an endlessly deep pocket to buy every aftermarket product known to man but they want to see originality or custom 1 off handmade stuff. BUILD IT!!! P.S. - I look forward to taking everyones $ again!!!! Last edited by Phins Fan; 06-16-2013 at 05:35 AM. |

That was the biggest downfall/suggestion for last years competition. All honestly - If they had a course I probably would have DNF'd as the rig looked cool but performed horribly. They had mentioned that weather pending there would be a course of sorts in the front. Im due to go tomorrow as I was talking to Dave about bringing some of my scale aparatus from my home course to help build a course to comp on.

Hello, this is Gary from Pioneer Valley Hobbies with an update. We now have RC4WD on board as a sponsor. We are still working on Proline, Axial, and Great Planes. We are indeed offering pizza and soft drinks. And are working on a scale course and trail to play on. This contest is to be set up more as a show format. A $10 entrance fee is to be elligable for prizes and you will get your $10 back in the form of a gift cert. But feel free to visit the show and even bring your crawler for show and tell! I know an accurate head count before hand would be way too much to ask for but if you could give me a shout either here or call me at the shop, i can get a better feel for amount of refreshments ahead of time. (413) 732-5531. And of course feel free to call with questions and comments. Thanks, cant wait to see you all here in Sept, Gary |

| Update 7-16-13
So I got a message from Gary and he has confirmed that there will be pizza and soda for contestants. They got RC4WD and Axial to sponsor the event (Thanks!) and are waiting to hear on a few others. There will also be a small course to play on as well. They also would like to encourage non contestants to come and check it out as it is set up in kind of a car show atmosphere. If I get any more info I'll update again. -Jon Last edited by trombley2; 07-16-2013 at 04:52 PM. |

Hey, how about a "Bring a rock" to the event. Must be able to be moved by hand, etc etc. This would help with the course potential, just a little more fun. Probably need to be able to take them home too.
