I almost picked one of these up for my first scale truck. I went with the V2 Axial due to local support. This will be my second rig purchase. Keep up the wonderful build! I really like the beefy portal axels.

Home stretch!

Axles ready to go on the chassis

Driveshafts

What's interesting here is they sent short and long center shafts. So spare shorts and four additional longs as it's assembled using the shorts. There is no mention about making this a longer wheelbase but the chassis has extra holes stamped in to do so.

Sliders and battery mount

As it sits on its wheels and tires provided.

I may have a small collection of bodies "in stock" to set on for scale of the chassis. I'll let you all tell me what looks best.

RC4WD Blazer

Tamiya Toyota

Tamiya Clod

RC4WD D90

China something Hummer H3T

I hope you all enjoyed the build. Time to get some electronics to make this thing a driver and to pick a body.....

So I looked into this quite a bit this morning, which involved tearing down my scx10ii.

Without some serious machining, the parts are just enough different to not allow a hybrid of these axles together. You would also have to work out a CMS solution if you did.

Here are some photos from my findings-
Side by side

Differential side by side

With machining of the tang to fit the scx10ii spool, there is enough depth.

What the MST would look like on the scx10ii just for kicks

If you wanted portals on your scx10ii or ascender chassis, just buy the MadMoose and be done with it. They already have CMS worked out, they will be offering a leaf spring seat with the production version and it has a larger, what I would call, "window of clearance" over all. The MM axle has about 140ish mm of square clearance between the portal boxes all the way up to the axle tubes. The MST is tapered due to the Chub design from 140ish to 115 at the tube.

Hopefully all this work and comparisons let you each "make smart choices" based on your individual needs.

Fantastic build thread. Thanks.

Mine arrives this week and as a relative newbie very much looking forward to it. I have bought a Jeep Nukizer body which is 313mm wheel base. Initially have just bought some 6/7mm spacers and longer grub screws to lengthen the links. From what you have just said the shock towers would need to be moved further apart and may need to use the long center shafts. Not precise but will that be good enough?

+1 for the Tamiya Toyota

The shock hoops can be moved and they have three positions to choose from. It sounds like you will be good to go with your plan.

As shown in the manuals-
MST is 36/15
Scx10ii is 30/8

Definitely adjustable but would require a 10-12mm spacer for the lower links and the grub screws as mentioned.

Thanks. Not having done this before, 10mm spacing on both sides = 20mm total. Standard wheelbase is 300mm so is would this +20mm be too much to get to 313mm?

10-12 mm is the total you have to add, it's only 3 mm on each side of each link
If I take this chassis, I would like to put on it Axial Cherokee body, and it's the same, 313 mm wheelbase
