How would you compare it to say the SCX10 II - would it be in the same league? I put off an SCX10 II and Vaterra Ascender purchase to try this one out. ( I really enjoyed my CMX/blackfoot build).

Let us know how you like it! I have an scx10ii and comparing them wouldn't be fair. Both are great kits to me so far, I've had my scx10ii on the rocks for a Comp and a trail run so far, did well on both. The MST will get to stretch its legs here soon. I can't honestly compare them until I can put it through the paces.

Would the Tamiya FJ Cruiser fit this chassis?

Wondering if this would be a better fit for the Killerbody LC70 rather than a scx-II ?

No, it is the same axle width as the SCX10 II.

You need Yota, or K44 or even better CMX/CFX axles.

As H2Omicro said or narrowed Ascender axles, they are designed to be easily narrowed. Cut ends off axle tubes, slide axles in farther (they're already machined for this), drill couple small holes for 3mm screws, reattach c-hubs and rear lockouts, good to go!

Take it to rocks next Sunday morning, I'll run an scx2 for comparison, maybe sgill can come with an ascender to complete the mainstream option. We all have the same tires at our disposal so we can have a similar setup as a baseline

The RC4WD body is about an 1 3/4" longer and about a half inch wider but the wheelbase is the same. Most of the additional length is at the rear of the RC4WD body.

The Blazing Blazer has a more square body with exaggerated wheel well openings, the RC4WD Blazer has a more realistic taper at the bottom and more accurate wheel openings.

Being the Blazing Blazer is modeled after Baja 1000 style trucks the wheel openings are understandable. You can occasionally find reproduction decals and resin reproduction grills, rear lights and wing sets if you wanted to make a true(r) tribute truck.

If you wanted to tackle the project I would be happy to send high resolution and measured photos of mine.

Really appreciate the comparison photos, that helps alot. One thing with the RC4WD Blazer body that I can't get over is how badly they screwed up the angle of the grill and the loss of body line detail at the top where it meets the hood/fender. Aside from that the rest of the body looks great. However, I will still get one some day, probably sooner than later.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your build up to this point and excited/anxious to hear how well it performs. I love the chassis layout and the portals are interesting. I built the SCX10.2 and love it but thinking I would like to make one of these my next purchase. I have been wavering between a Gelande 2/Trailfinder and now the MST CFX is added to the list. Thank you for all the details!

How noisey/quiet is your transmission? Mine has a ton of gear noise that I can't seem to get rid of. I've checked the pinion mesh and adjusted about 20 times and can't seem to quiet it down. First unit I've built that thins has been an issue.

Thoughts?

It's been a while but I was able to get the rig into running shape. I will need to get some essentials like a winch and some beadlocks but it is under its own power.

I have plans for a hard body but it's too cold to paint here at the moment so I dug out my old lexan pickup body. It's an old Tamiya TXT-1 that I had on my old class 2 rig.

I can confirm the transmission is a little noisy but not terrible by any stretch. Has good running characteristics, on par with my others (ascender, scx10ii, and others. I will be taking it to Motorama to shake it down a bit more and hopefully next weekend I can get some video and pictures outside for you all. I have also devised a plan for a CMS but need a few small items.

Here are the pictures with the body and electronics mounted.
