Default Big Oly tribute build

This build started by itself with very little thought needed on my part (just my $$ was needed).

Last year I bought two cfx-w kits because I figured I would run one and keep the other for parts if needed. Well, a year later and 1000+ gates and I haven’t needed anything due to breakage. I feel it can and should be built.

While at the G6 in PA in June, I received a set of Pit Bull 1.9 XOR’s in a raffle amongst a bunch of other items. So now I have tires...

At NESS, I received a 1966 Proline Bronco body that uses a deadbolt cage in addition to a Castle Mamba X wp system! So, as I am not a Ford fan I contemplated what to do with all this treasure.... build a treasure chest!

My inspiration:

While I’m not stuck on perfect replication of Big Oly, I wanted to get close enough.

After some thought, I decided to complete this build in overkill mode. I started ordering parts little by little over the summer and fall and I am at the point now where I can start building (mostly because this needs built, tested, tuned and ready for Feb Motorama!)

Here are the goodies:

The run down:
Castle Mamba X with 2200 sensored Slate motor
Power HD 35g servos
Team KNK hardware
Proline Bronco body
MIP Wraith driveshaft set
Cow RC will keep it spinning like butter
And the brass jewelry from Samix RC...
Portal covers, shock spring retainers, lower shock mounts, pivot balls for links and a set of their high clearance stainless links.

These Samix parts are fantastic! All the links are etched with upper or lower and the Samix logo. Threads are perfect too at 4mm.

Got these in my mystery box from RC4WD yesterday. They may look great for the build....

A little more wrenching today.

The Samix RC covers are a perfect fit

Axles are assembled

Used the lower link mounts from Samix as well.

All done for today after getting the axles and chassis together.

I just couldn’t resist a little more mock up....
The Wertymade CFX-W front bumper is killer on here!

A little fine tuning and it will be as low as it can go.

Winch behind the body out of harms way too.

Still trugging along on this build as it gets closer to the deadline. Too cold here in MD to paint the body right now so that will be on hold.

I did get the electronics locations figured out. Waiting on a few more parts from SamixRC, an order from RPP to get the winch up and running, and an order from the Scale King at Exclusive RC to finish out the details and driver (a 3D printed mini me!).

More pictures on the next update as I get rear bumper mounted, tires/wheels mounted and the Mamba X programmed up with the new Spektrum radio.

Thanks for watching!

Still moving along with more parts coming in like the Proline cage, Heyok winch controllers, a few little items from RPP.

Still on the fence about the rear bumper but don’t want to sacrifice the rear winch.

A little more progress and parts added today.
SamixRC sent me their aluminum shock hoops and a set of Servo horns. Again, wonderful looking and fit perfectly!

Definitely helps my shock angle both front and rear.

Also chopped off the stinger on the rear bumper and tucked it in under the body another full inch.

Got the electronics powered up, steering mix on the new DX5R figured out and winch controllers hooked up and tested from HeyOK.

Started paint work too and found it to be a bit humid so I’ll hold off a little longer for the rest.

Are the Samix shock hoops any longer/ higher that the standard ones? I'm about to start making some for my little CFX 'yota so I can run better shocks. The MST ones are very plush but do leak..

They are the same height but have much more adjustment forward and aft. I mount the lower shock end down with the link mount on the axle. Allows for a longer shock.

I just got a look at this Rig.... NICE!! I was thinking about that Lid, but I've only seen them clear. Now I can see the detail better, and REALLY want one now!!
Does that just take a standard Deadbolt type of Cage? I'm subbing, and can't wait to see what this becomes!!

Yes, it’s a direct replacement for the deadbolt so it uses the same cage. Thanks for following along

Lots of time today to get it ready for a trail test.

Tomorrow’s weather looks promising, I need to get it on some rocks.

Did very well on the test drive, lots of adjustments made and it’s settled down. Wheels were the final purchase and on their way.

All wrapped up with new Gear Head wheels. Time for trails and Motorama in a couple weeks.

With the Blazing Blazer for comparison.
