Default MST CMX TJ take 2

Hey guys, I decided to redo my "Winkletank" build a little. I got my hands on a fairly cheap NewBright TJ body so I decided to chop on it. Using a little styrene, I formed a new floor pan and trans tunnel. Then I chopped the doors off and added seat brackets and a custom Axial unlimited cage chopped down to fit. I am working on a Hardtop and a few other odds and ends as well. Here it is as it sits currently...

Thanks, I really like it. As with any kit, I wish it had come with a few more options (ball bearings) but over all Im very pleased. It is plenty capable straight out of the box but Ive done a custom 3 link/panhard setup on the front with CMS. I also added 90mm shocks all the way around (it came with 80) to give me a little more flex. Im stoked on the size, its a "true ten" scale and quite a bit smaller than the SCX-10 so it fits the NewBright and Tamiya bodies better. Everything is more challenging now as well. With my SCX-10, I just point it where I want it to go and it does, this takes a little more planning and all the obstacles are new again. 10-10 would recommend

Where is the trans since you have a full interior

The trans is still on the skid but the spur gear is forward and the motor back. This allowed the trans to be fairly low and the spur gear/cover are forward of the firewall. The floor pan is styrene, so I heated the center portion and pressed it down over the trans (kinda like vacuum forming a body minus the vacuum) so it fits pretty snug.

Added a little detail today. The Jeep got some chrome paint around the headlight to mke them "pop," new fog lights on the bumper, windshield wipers, mirrors, and a spare tire.... Hope to add lights soon and a few other goodies as far as detail goes. I did do a little crawling yesterday and it seemed to flex a little too much so I took the front shocks apart and sleeved the shaft internally to limit the stroke by 3-5mm. Ill try to get it back out tomorrow if Hurricane Matthew doesnt push too much moisture into the area.....

Flex Friday!!!

It is far superior to my scx10. I'll post a short video in a bit...

Also, it is worth mentioning.... My CMX is 3 link/panhard bar front, with chassis mounted servo. I don't think it really changed much as far as turning radius on flat ground but might have changed some of the characteristics while off-road.....

My fear is that it is more 1/12 scale. Or true 1/10 and everything else is 1/9. I have a sawback I use for class 1 but I'd like to build another class 1.

It is true 1/10 for sure. It is the exact size of a Tamiya CC-01 so there are a few bodies out there that fit right out of the box but, everything is smaller than a SCX10.

My Shortened SCX10 with the same body (lengthened wheelbase) for comparison...

And with an old SCX10 Cherokee body I had laying around...

Looking good, the body and track width look well proportioned. I really like the CMX chassis, recently got mine going and it handles very well. How's it with the hard body?

It does very well with the extra weight. I added 1.5oz of weight to the wheels to compensate for the weight of the body and lower the center of gravity back down.It could use a little more wheel speed but I'm going to gold off on changing the setup for now because it is a class 1 trail truck and I don't want it to become too much of a basher, which would happen if it were any faster.

Thanks man, I'm pretty excited to see what comes out next. Compared to my first crawler (PTI Goliath) back in the way back, things have come a super long way.

I got my RC4WD Tough Armor rear bumper mounted on the front and removed the molded rear bumper from the body which allowed me to raise the stock rear bumper up to the correct position. I think it looks much better and the approach/departure angles are vastly improved!
