I don't believe manufacturer listed sizes. They are usually wrong.

I guess I'll find out since I ordered 1.55 MT/Rs at lunch yesterday. Now I just have to make my mind up with the wheels.

After I got home last night I added the details to the body. That included the chrome grille, air filter, and the side skirts. I didn't add the mirrors or any other decals.

I think it looks good with the skirts, but I think those will be very problematic out on the trail especially without rock sliders. I did take OSRC's tip and order the CFX-W sliders though. So we'll see how the sliders interfere with the skirts when I get them.

I, of course, wanted to take it outside and get another rest run in. When I got outside the wind was blowing what seemed like 50MPH and a wintry mix was coming down. WTF?! It's mid-April, Mother Nature! I wasn't dressed for the weather so I only stayed outside about 10 minutes. I got a nice little run in. The truck performs pretty well. And I was able to snap a couple more photos.

During Saturday's test and tune session I got to run my CMX for the first time. I have to say I love this little truck much more than I thought I would. I was having buyer's remorse soon after placing the order online. I was contemplating selling the truck upon it arrived, but after driving it I'll think I'll keep it at least for a little while. I wanted to run this truck more than any of my other trucks after driving it on Saturday. It's far more capable than it appears. One of my friends calls it a mini SCX10 and that's exactly what it is.

OSRC's CFX Bronco next to my CMX Unimog.

Got flex? It doesn't look like it has much flex in this photo, but that's because in scale those rocks would be massive boulders. It has plenty of flex in stock form IMO.

Both the CFX and CMX made it up this test rock. Pretty impressive if you ask me. It was cold in the morning so the tires weren't the softest and neither of us used the tires with the best compounds, but the trucks reached the top with a little bit of momentum. The stock tires on my truck really aren't too bad. They could be much worse. I would like to try the MST soft compound at some point. What's interesting is that the stock tires do not have foams. They are only air filled with holes in the rims. It works OK with this extremely light truck.

I brought the stock 1.55 wheels and tires from my Trail Finder 2 kit along to try on my CMX. They really woke the truck up. They are a little bit taller and the compound is softer than stock, but the added weight of the steel wheels really made the truck feel a lot more planted.

In stock for the truck is very light - too light. That's the biggest drawback.

Unfortunately, I didn't take many photos after installing these wheels so I only have these for now.

I don't think the TF2 Mud Thrasher tires and wagon wheel steelies look bad on the Mog, but I wanted something different. Unimogs should only have black, military style wheels, right?

Bah humbug!

I present you a Unimog with mags!

I've been wanting to try LockedUp RC wheels for a while now and I decided to pull the trigger on their 1.55 Trail Ready wheels. I got the scale hardware as well. My RC4WD 1.55 Goodyear MTR tires were mounted on them.

Schweeet!

I think they look good. Maybe not the best for the Unimog, but they are sexy and I can't wait to try out these tires. They'll stay for now, but I can easily move them to my TF2 with the Yota or Blazer body.

TSS scale hubs are a little big for these wheels. They'd look much better on 1.9 or 2.2's. So I'm in search of scale hubs for these wheels. I'm open to suggestions.

One thing that drives me nuts about the MTRs is that they aren't mirrored. Instead, they are all molded the same way so the passenger side tires are opposite of the driver's side tires and they appear to be going in the wrong direction to me. Those with OCD need not apply.

It was raining Sunday when I installed the new wheels and tires. Last night it was sunny so I took it outside for some better photos and some crawling on my test stump.

I thought you said it was sunny? It was! Damn shadows...

Ah sunlight!

Ok now for some wheel porn...WTH? I didn't install Mad Max tire slashing studs on these wheels? Doh! My scale hardware backed out in droves. WTF?! I've never had this happen with scale hardware. In my few years of using scale hardware I have lost maybe one screw total out on the trails. In my 15 minute test run last night with this truck I lost 10 beadlock screws along with having a lot of them partially back out! 4 of the missing screws were hanging out on top of the stump. I don't usually use thread lock on these tiny screws, but I might have to with these wheels. I don't know if this is a common problem with LockedUp RC wheels, if I just didn't get them tight enough, or of the screws are from a bad batch.

Wow, you got screwed.

But those wheels are MINT! The hubs are just hair big but I like it. I've been eyeing these wheels for current project but I think I'll have to get narrowed AR44 housings to make these wheels work.

The Goodyear MT/R crowd is growing fast!
Seems like it's now being used more and more on all sizes.

Ugh. That’s gonna be a lot of threadlock

It’s a sweet looking tire. I gather it hooks up well?

Works like a charm for my yeti Jr as a rock racer.

I will be able to test them soon on my Bomber as well.

I've only had the chance to give it a 15 minute backyard test, but my initial impression says yes. This truck almost made my stump test climb, but I bottomed out at the top and then I could never get it again. That was on damp tree bark.

I hate threadlock on those small beadlock screws. Always seem to screw something up when trying to remove them later on. Now I use clear nail polish (yeah, the stuff your girlfriend/wife uses) on really small screws. Seems to lock the thread in fine and pretty much everything can be taken apart without too many issues. Might be worth a try on those.

Hmm I'll give that a try. Thanks!

One thing I forgot to mention is that the extra juice from the HobbyWing WP 1080 internal BEC killed the stock servo. It gave it enough power to strip the plastic gears. So I ordered a Protek 100T. Why? I'm not sure. It was late and I was tired. I do know that I'm sick of hearing the Savox servos trying to center. Why haven't they fixed that after all these years? Even the cheapo servos aren't as noisy as a Savox. And I wanted something fast, preferably for this weekend, so I didn't want to wait for China's latest and greatest. I also don't think this truck requires anything more than 200 in-oz.

Those wheels and tires are a beautiful combo, but as you said the wheels arent' quite Mog. Forgot about nail polish on screws trick, a tiny dab of E6000 would work too.

Protek 100T is a good spec servo at nice price for a rig like this, let us know how it does.

Thank you. Good thing I'm not an OCD super scale nerd so it doesn't bother me. The wheels are staying on this rig for now!

Thanks for the tip. I have some E6000 so I can try that. I don't have any nail polish on hand for myself.

I’ve run a Traxxas 2075 in my first CMX since I got it two years ago and have no complaints - I believe they’re about 125 in-oz so you’ll be fine with that protek 100t.

I received and installed the ProTek 100T servo along with a Tekno aluminum servo horn. It's a nice looking servo, but I wish we'd get back to black cases. Bright colors look great as a packaged product, but these same colors look stupid on an axle mounted servo on a scale rig.

The servo performs well. It's more than sufficient for this truck. This is a fun truck and it's way more capable than it should be. It, again, climbed the toughest part of my test stump. But it won't completely surmount it because the reduced ground clearance from the 1.55 tires made it get high centered. Still, I'm impressed and I can't wait to get it back out on the trail. It does need weight down low, especially in the front. That's the only thing I'd change at this point.
