It is for the rat rod body. That one is Howards. You can see it here on the left.

Before starting construction I calculated all the quantities out with the CAD model.

I estimated 24.5' of rod in each chassis and 2.5 lbs.

Last night before Howard took them all with him we weighed them.

Exactly 40.00 ounces for mine, 39.95 ounces for Squirrelod, and 40.25 for Howards. Total rod usage was 80'.

CAD model was spot on!

Oh boy, I can't wait for this to ship. I cheated and went Traxxas VXL 4x4 stampede. And installed Imex Red Rocks, VP Method wheels, .600 hubs, Grave Digger body. 3s power, independent suspension. Flies on snow.

That's pretty good for 3 compete chassis's total weight should be around 7.5-8 ish rtr if I did my figures right. Killer builds for sure can't wait to see how these go.

Nice build! I'm wondering why you are running an Axial style trans in the truck. I guess it depends on the kV of the motor, but will you get enough wheel speed with the reduction of the trans? I run a 1900kv 1/8 motor in my Foff truck with an 1/8 style transmission, 20T pinion and 44Tspur. Plenty of wheel speed on 3s and crazy on 4s.

Gearing can be adjusted of course but the other big difference will be the fact that the rollout number on a 5.75" tire is much larger than what you'll have on a paddle tire. That affects the gearing needs as well. The amount of wheelspeed needed for this truck vs a FOFF truck is probably not the same either. I think the reduction will be a good thing for a mud truck as well, it should keep the motor temperatures in a more reasonable range.

Ah yeah, I forgot the wheel size would be different. Would be good to see it on some paddle tires though.

Howard took all 3 of the frames with him when he left the other day. He wanted to take them and bronze all the joints to fill them. This was much faster than finish welding everything with the TIG. After that he bead blasted them and smoothed everything out. The finished product is amazing!
