Default 72 Chevy Mega Mud truck

I've been wanting to build a dedicated mud rig for awhile now and when RC4WD finally came out with the 2.2 mud tires i quickly ordered up a set and started collecting parts. I'm leaning towards more of a scale build vs actual all out performance. That's not to say it wont get dirty and sling some serious mud.

Tube chassis inspired by All out Performance's “Gone Ballistic” truck
Proline 72 Chevy longbed
TxT axles and transmission
2.2 RC4WD Mud Bashers on custom DCW 2.6 wheels
Locked Up RC .185 hubs & hardware

Still have a ways to go on the chassis but it's getting there.

This is awesome, can't wait to see how it turns out. How do you like the proportions of those tires to those axles? They're almost stock clod tire height right?

Yeah they are just a little bit shorter than the Clod tire. I think they are a good size in relation to the TxT axle. These tires are a little taller and wider compared to a 1:1 Mega truck tire but it's close enough for me.

Me to Actually following your TTC rig build and getting these DCW wheels has really motivated me.

I'm picking away at the chassis. Here i was thinking, it's just a mud truck it'll be a quick and easy chassis to make... yeah right.

The planned ride height i'm shooting for. The truck should sit mostly compressed somewhere around 80/20. The overall track width is 11.5" and the wb is 13.5"

Thanks

I was able to get the motor & transmission mounted today. Pay no attention to the silver can... it'll have Big Block power once it hits the mud.

Finished the chassis and it's sitting on it's own weight.

The ride height is almost perfect, links are nice & flat. I picked up some black beauty today and hopefully the weather cooperates tomorrow so i can sandblast the chassis.

Wow, that is some seriously impressive tube work. Looks spot on to a well built Mega Truck. Can't wait for mud slinging wheelie pics.

How do those tire carcas feel considering they are supposedly super soft? Think they will they tolerate bashing-speed cornering without rock hard foams?

What are the plans for a skidplate? Or does it even really need one?

Thanks, i tried to make it as scale as possible while adapting the design to fit the 72 long body pickup and TxT transmission. This is the 1:1 All Out Performance chassis that was my inspiration.

Yeah i dont think the stock RC4WD foams are gonna cut it. The plan is to go with Crawler Innovations foams once i get it all together.

No skidplate... but I did add a small bar just below the transmission just in case. You can see it a little better in this pic.

Sorry no big updates All I've done lately is paint the chassis and rebuilt the axles with 4:1 gears.

I started a new job and have been very busy between training and assignments so I've had very little time to mess with toy trucks.

Once things settle down a bit I'll get back on this project.
