Default Kyosho Foxx Mega Truck

Ive been wanting to build a mega truck for some time but the expense and time to build something custom wasnt going to be practical for me so i started out with the Kyosho Foxx. Everything waterproof, not too expensive and killer looks. All ive done so far is give it a slight lift and throw on some wheels and tires. Just got the wheels and tires on last night so i'll get some shots today in some mud. Really like the look though!

My next step will be changing the orientation of the shocks to more vertical for that true mud truck look and then some different body art. Eventually maybe a different body too, but the stock one looks pretty killer!

Well, here is the aftermath of my afternoon! The tires worked awesome and hooked up way better than stock for all around driving. Just need to glue them so they stay on.. All in all very happy. This truck has tons of power, just need to figure out a gearbox and chain cover to keep the rocks out! Will post a bettter video later.

So i was able to get the chain drive apart get the rocks out but it was jammed pretty hard. It also slightly bent the idler shaft for the spur gear and chain pinion due to jamming so hard. Was able to straighten the shaft, clean it up and get it all back together ok. With the open drivetrain design it is going to need a cover so that will be the next step for this beast.

In case anyone is wondering about the wheels and tires they are the rc4wd 2.2 tires streeeeeched way around these wheels. Price is right on wheels.
6 Spoke 4pcs HSP 1 8 Scale Off Road Buggy Car 17mm Hub Plastic RC Wheels Rims | eBay

I went with these wheels to get the look i wanted but also needed the narrow width for the narrow tires and still fit my 17mm hubs. Not perfetct but they are pretty good considering.

The tires are super soft and actually held on pretty good considering no real mounting.. until i started huckin it off the gravel piles. I had a rear and a front pop off. Once i glue them they will be good. I would rather have bead locks but i dont see any way to make that work. Im also going redo the foam in the tires to help the fit too. The stock foam in the tires is not a good size for going on the wheels. More to come...

I like it! Can't believe those tires stretched over those wheels but I might have to try it on mine. I'll agree those tires need a stiff foam.

They are so dang strechy... not a problem. They stay in place pretty good cause they are stiiicky! hook up great too, but defnitely need glue.

If you put em on a foxx move the rear shocks to the inner brace mounts and front shocks at the top stock mount on the axle.

Made some new foam inserts with some regular flat foam and glued the tires on. Really happy with the way it turned out. Still working on my tranny guard. I'll post a couple pics later. Should be done by the weekend to go out and get some video footage for a decent video.

I know a lot of guys are running these axles for mud trucks. I think this wheel tire combo is a good way to still be able to use the stock 17mm hubs and get a great mud truck tire.

If anyone has the kyosho mad force I think that these wheels and tires would look wicked! May have to get a mad force body just to see for myself. Not sure what other bodies will fit...

The tires are holding up great. They are super sticky and this thing has a ton of traction. Only complaint is that it does roll fairly easy, especially with speeds and power this truck has. But the tires look great and tear $h1t up! They are wearing pretty good too.
Also played around with the suspension angles and ended up where it is now. Keeps the back end from bouncing all over the place and lifted it a bit. I would go higher in the front but it is all the front drive shaft dog bones can handle without coming out.
I painted the shock springs black and took a few pictures of it with one of my TF2 bodies on there just for looks, however i have a new proline body PN 3430-00. I would prefer a single cab but the wb and length and width should fit better. Think im leaning towards painting it white or yellow.. not sure. Either way going to look sweet! I'll post some pics after i get it painted and mounted.

That last pic with the yota body is sick!

Where in the PA you live? I worked up there for almost a year in 2011-12 when they changed out all their wood power poles to fiberglass. Worked out of the substation across from the high school Fun place for sure spent many many days after work up in the park on trails crawling.

Anyways sweet mud truck

Never did too much with trying to cover the whole drivetrain. Made a plastic cover for the chain on the bottom which has been working well. Also used 1/4 inch foam for a cover on the front and then just covered the whole thing with gorilla tape. Works pretty well and keeps the big stuff out and haven't really had a problem since.
I did have the esc stop working once. I had to pull it and take it apart and dry it out. I siliconed when i put it back together and its been fine since.
Also had to replace the stock servo after run #10 or so. Went glitchy so I put in a turnigy 1/8 300+oz servo.

Decided to velco the body in place for now. New body mounts are on the way but the velcro is actually working pretty good.
Im really liking the looks of the new body and with the way the truck handles and drives i couldn't be happier. So far its what i was looking for in a mud truck/mega truck.

Well... I was getting ready to run my truck and installed a 3s and 4s battery and hooked them together in parallel, put the body on and walked away. Truck was in my basement when my daughter ran out telling my my truck was on fire! Ran in to find my truck in flames! 3S battery caught fire.
Opened the window and threw it outside... lucky i didn't burn my house down. I was able to save most of it got it cleaned up and got a new body. Went for a little different paint scheme for something different.
